Goals To understand societies according to time and culture, to explain social phenomena, to determine similarities and differences between societies, to explain the changes and transformations of societies in the historical development process, to make predictions about the changes in existing social structures.
Course Content This course examines the subject, method, history and basic concepts of sociology and the relationship of sociology with other social sciences. The founders of modern sociology and basic sociological approaches are explained.
Learning Outcomes - Explains the topics, purpose and history of sociology
- Gaining knowledge of fundamental sociological perspectives regarding formation and functioning of social structure.
- Acquiring the ability to analyze social categories such as gender, class, ethnicity.
- Being able to interpret institutions and social functioning from a sociological perspective.
- Gaining the skills to examine social change processes through scientific methods
- Becoming informed about different sociological thinkers and theories.
- Obtaining the skills to collect and interpret sociological data
- Developing critical thinking and ability to question relationships between social phenomena.
- Gaining the ability to apply sociological viewpoint to different fields.
- To gain awareness of social issues in Turkish society, to approach these issues critically, and to become knowledgeable about the works of Turkish sociologists and be able to convey this information.
