Goals Learners will be able to understand historically changing meanings of migration and migrant; to recognize different types of migration; to evaluate micro-mezzo and macro structures and their impact on migration decisions; to explain migration flows in the light of migration approaches, globalization and migration policies; to evaluate the changes that migration creates in source and sending societies from a critical perspective.
Course Content What is immigration, who is an immigrant? Migration and immigration from past to present, Theories explaining international migration: Migration systems, Transnational Areas, Migration Policies, Migration flows in the world, Migration and immigration policies in Turkey, Gender and migration
Learning Outcomes - Being able to evaluate migration issues from a historical and sociological perspective.
- Being able to explain national, regional and international migration flows in the light of modern migration approaches
- Being able to analyze the relationship between urbanization, globalization and migration from a sociological perspective
- Being able to analyze relations between globalization, migration and gender in the light of migration theories
- Being able to explain current migration flows in Turkey from a sociological perspective
