Goals Learners will be able to understand the importance of the family as a social institution, historical development of family; relations within the family; the structure and types of family; economic, social and reproductive functions of the family; changing role of the family and social change; sexual division of labor within family; domestic labor, patriarchy, child labor and kinship.
Course Content
Learning Outcomes - Comprehends the structure and functioning of the family institution and its relationship with other social institutions and social norms.
- Develops a sociological perspective on concepts such as marriage, divorce, kinship, child-parent relationship.
- Develops a critical view of domestic violence and gender issues.
- Gains knowledge and discusses the changing family structure in Turkey and in the world.
