Goals To teach the science of aging, the changes due to aging and the importance of the quality of life of elderly individuals.
Course Content Basic concepts in the profession, introduction to gerontology, demography, theories of aging, social relations in old age, active aging, elder abuse and violation, rational drug use in the elderly, health care, health care team, basic rights and responsibilities of patients and health care workers, healthy hospital environment and unit of the elderly person, patient and employee safety, Meeting the basic needs of hemostasis and elderly, basic care, elderly care, ensuring individual hygiene and self-care practices, movement requirement of the elderly, mobilization, body mechanics
Learning Outcomes - To be able to explain the basic concepts of Gerontology such as age, aging, elderliness
- To be able to explain the basic theories of aging
- To be able to relate demographic structure in Turkey and the world and aging process
- To be able to explain physiological, psychological, social changes due to getting elderly
- To be able to explain the life quality of elderly people
- To be able to define the healthcare team
- To be aware of patient and employee safety
- To be able to provide self-care needs and mobilization of the elderly
