Goals This course aims to comprehend the basic concepts and mechanisms in economics, to gain the ability to analyze economic events in microeconomic and macroeconomic dimensions and to provide a background for higher level economics courses.
Course Content The Nature and Importance of Economic Science, Introduction to Price Theory-Demand and Supply, Determination of Equilibrium Price in Perfect Competition Market, Factors other than Price Affecting Supply and Demand, Supply, Demand and Elasticity Analysis, Consumer Theory, Producer Theory, Price Theory, Monopoly, Monopson and Monopolistic Competition Market, Oligopoly, Criticism of Price Theory and Goals other than Profit Maximization in Firm Decisions, Demand for Factors of Production: Marginal Productivity Theory, Labor and Wages, Land and Rent, Capital and Interest, Enterprise and Profit, Income Distribution Policy, Industrialization, Urbanization and Environmental Economics.
Learning Outcomes - Students will be able to define the basic concepts of economics.
- Students will be able to explain the main actors in the economy and the relationships between these actors.
- Students will be able to analyze basic mechanisms in a microeconomic context.
