Goals The aim of this lesson is to teach the basic concepts of play and music in special needs to special education teachers.
Course Content This lesson class aims to describe the theorists who are important for using play as a teaching tool. Besides this course provides an integrated view of normal and atypical play development. Specific assessment and intervention procedures useful for teachers of children and youth with severe/profound or mild/moderate disabling conditions are emphasized. Approaches to play assessment and intervention for children who are at-risk, developmentally delayed or language learning disabled are presented.
Learning Outcomes - Describes the theorists who are important for using play as a teaching tool and the theories in terms of their effect on the education practices.
- Describes the play development and the play skills of children with special needs.
- Uses play for effective teaching and for the instruction and assessment of children with special needs.
- Uses activity based approach to support cognitive, social, motor, language and academic development of children with special needs.
- Follows the literature in terms of play development, instruction methods, play assessment for self and career development
