Goals To introduce the definition and scope of trauma, post-traumatic stress responses, effects of trauma on individuals and families, and types of post-traumatic stress disorder and interventions.
Course Content Definition, scope and types of trauma (natural disasters, man-made traumas, proxy trauma, secondary trauma etc.); reactions that can be seen in children, adolescents and adults after trauma and the factors affecting them, individual, familial and social consequences of trauma experience, possible psychological disorders caused by trauma (post-traumatic stress disorder, acute stress disorder, etc.); approaches and intervention methods to prevent the negative effects of trauma in humans; State policies regarding trauma and the qualifications and competencies of the counselor who will work with traumatized people.
Learning Outcomes - Defines trauma and concepts related to trauma.
- Distinguish memory loss caused by trauma and other memory loss.
- Evaluates the effect of trauma on development.
- Evaluates trauma in terms of gender.
- Applies the approach that is appropriate from psychological counseling theories to the process of coping with trauma.
