Goals Presenting knowledge on what is art, students will be familiar with the tools necessary for looking at a work of art. Beside the compositional elements of formal production, the media such as painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, and film will be defined and discussed for the sake of of visual literacy.
Course Content This is a course to introduce students to the definitions of art, the differentiation of arts from crafts and compositional elements. The course will help the development of the idea of art and art history providing students numerous samples of works of art to understand and interprete art making from cave art to recent trends.
Learning Outcomes - Student learns the changing meaning of art in the historical context by different functions
- Student becomes familiar with the differences and similarities between art and craft
- Student gets knowledge on the production of art works by means of different materials.
- Different art disciplines such as painting photography, architecture, cinema and photograph are to be taught.
- Student is able to perceive and interpret the compositional elements such as line, space, light, colour, pattern, time and movement
- Student learns about the movements in art history on basic level.
- The knowledge on the relation among artist, work of art, audience and art institutions is learned and the skill of interpretation.
