Goals To convey how the political, economic and cultural structures of societies affect the art; the theatre and theatre theories in particular, and to give the students new perspectives in order to generate alternative solutions to evaluate the theatre problems of our times.
Course Content This course focuses on the conception of theatre in Ancient Greece and Rome in parallel to the transition from mythological thinking to philosophical thinking. Subsequently, the scholastic thought that allows the emergence of church plays in the Middle Ages will be examined.
Learning Outcomes - Comprehends the origin of theatre.
- Acquires the skill to interpret theatre theories.
- Acquires the skill to discuss the social, cultural, aesthetic, political and economic dimensions of theatre.
