Goals The course aims to familiarize students with the theoretical perspectives necessary to interpret modern and contemporary art.
Course Content The course covers the period ranging from early modernism to postmodernism and the contemporary. Topics include modernism, the avant-garde, originality, abstract art, formalism and structuralism, popart, minimalism, conceptual art, postmodernism and deconstruction, environmental art, politics of vision, gender, and the contemporary art.
Learning Outcomes - To be capable of explaining the general characteristics of modernism, postmodernism, and the contemporary.
- To be capable of applying knowledge of historical, social, and cultural context to interpreting modern and contemporary artworks.
