Goals The course aims to familiarize students with the purposes, main concepts, and methodologies of art history, and the theoretical perspectives to interpret the works of art.
Course Content An art-historical exploration of how human creative practices relate to technology, religious beliefs, socio-political realities, gender and everyday life. Each lecture introduces some of the basic themes, terms, and institutions that define our modern conception of art. The first term of the course covers the period ranging from prehistory to the late nineteenth century.
Learning Outcomes - To be capable of explaining and using the basic vocabulary and methodologies of art history.
- To be capable of applying knowledge of historical, social, and cultural context to interpreting artworks.
