Goals Teacher candidates will acquire fundamental knowledge and skills related to the subject areas of Earth and Universe, Physical Events, Matter and Change, and Living Beings and Life within the framework of 3rd and 4th-grade science curriculum topics.
Course Content The course content covers the core science topics in the primary 3rd and 4th-grade curriculum, organized under the following headings: Introduction to Science: Importance and fundamental principles of science. Types of scientific knowledge and key concepts in science. Scientific revolutions and paradigms in science. Earth and Universe: Introduction to Astronomy: Formation of the universe, the Solar System, and planets. Structure of the Earth: Inner and outer layers, rocks, fossils. Distant observation technologies: Telescopes, space vehicles, and recent developments in space research. Physical Events: Force and Motion: Basic concepts of motion, Newton’s laws of motion. Light and Sound: Light sources, reflection and refraction; sound sources, sound technologies. Electricity: Electric charge, electric current, resistance, Ohm’s Law, and simple electric circuits. Matter and Change: Structure of Matter: Atomic models, states of matter (solid, liquid, gas). Classification of Matter: Elements, compounds, mixtures, and separation methods. Chemical reactions and transformations of matter. Living Beings and Life: Concept of life and living organisms in our environment. Human body systems and sensory organs and their functions. Environmental awareness: Environmental issues and conservation.
