Goals This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills related to the basic concepts, approaches and practices of curriculum development and instruction.
Course Content Basic concepts related to curriculum development; theoretical foundations of curriculum development; types of curriculum; philosophical, social, historical, psychological and economic foundations of curricula; characteristics of curriculum development and curricula; stages of curriculum development; basic elements of curriculum (objectives, content, process, evaluation) and relationships between elements; classification of objectives and their relationship with curriculum elements; content arrangement approaches; determination of educational needs; curriculum development process and models; curriculum design approaches; curriculum evaluation models; curriculum literacy; duties and responsibilities of teachers in the development of curricula; characteristics of MEB curricula; implementation of curricula; new approaches and trends in curriculum development in the world and in Turkey.
Learning Outcomes - Explains the basic concepts related to Curriculum Development
- Students will be able to identify and critically evaluate the fundamental theories and models used in the curriculum development process.
- Students will be able to conduct a needs assessment as the first step in the curriculum development process and interpret the data in alignment with program objectives.
- Understand the historical development of the curriculum development process
- Explains the basics (Economic, social, personal, philosophical) of Curriculum Development
- Students will be able to set educational program objectives and effectively plan content and activities that align with these objectives.
- Students will have the skills to evaluate a developed curriculum and revise it as needed.
- Knows curriculum development models
- Understands the characteristics of of aims, content, teaching and evalution in the curriculum development process
