Goals | The main objective of this course is to inform students on biological and non-biological factors which cause wood degredation and deterioration. Current wood preservation chemicals and methods used to extend service life of wood and wood-based composites. All aspects of quality control testing in wood preservation industry including environmental issues. |
Course Content | Major principles and basic understanding in wood preservation technology,History of wood preservation. Current status in th country and the world.Interpretation of natural durability, the relationship between wood anatomy and fluid mechanics. Major water, oil and organic based wood preservatives New generation wood preservatives, Fire retardant chemicals Pre-conditioning before impregnation process Impregnation methods, application of basic impregnation techniques,Vacuum-pressure impregnation methods Practical applications in wood preservation, remedial treatments and extension of service life,Field trip to a full-scale wood preservation facility,Qality control methods and standards in wood preservation industry (Lab),Features of treated wood material, Variables related to wood structure, solution viscosity and pH and method which affect wood preservation.
