The Master’s Program in Economics aims to provide students with advanced knowledge in economic theory and quantitative analysis methods. Through courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and applied fields, the program develops analytical thinking, modeling, and data analysis skills.

Students gain the ability to evaluate current economic issues within theoretical and empirical frameworks. Graduates are equipped for academic careers as well as positions in the public and private sectors involving economic analysis and policy development.

The mission of the Master’s Program in Economics is to educate specialists who are committed to universal scientific principles, capable of analytical thinking, proficient in quantitative methods, and able to approach economic issues critically and with a solution-oriented perspective. The program aims to enhance academic research capacity and to train qualified graduates who can contribute to policy analysis and implementation processes in both the public and private sectors.

 Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Economics degree.  

[] Earned Level of Qualification

 Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a Master’s Degree in Economics. This qualification corresponds to Level 7 (Master’s Level) within the Turkish Qualifications Framework for Higher Education (TQF-HE).  

[] Admission Requirements
  1. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, International Relations, Political Science and International Relations, Mathematics, Statistics, Statistics and Computer Science, Mathematics and Computer Science, History, Geography, Sociology, or Philosophy.

  2. Applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 60 from the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES – Equal Weight).

Courses will be held at the Akçakoca Campus, Faculty of Political Sciences in Akçakoca.

Evaluation Criteria

  • 50% ALES (Equal Weight) score

  • 40% Undergraduate GPA

  • 10% Foreign Language score

Applicants must obtain a minimum overall score of 50 out of 100 in order to be considered successful.

[] Course's Contrubution To Program

Students enrolled in the thesis-based master’s program are required to:

  • Register for at least 7 courses, a Seminar course, and a Master’s Thesis, and complete a total of 120 ECTS credits.

  • Obtain at least a CB grade in each course in order to be considered successful.

  • Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 in all required courses.

  • Successfully complete the Seminar course and pass the Master’s Thesis Defense.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

 Graduates of the Master’s Program in Economics may be employed in public institutions and organizations, central banks, regulatory and supervisory authorities, development agencies, international organizations, banks and other financial institutions, as well as in the private sector in areas such as economic analysis, planning, research, and policy development. They may also pursue doctoral studies for an academic career.  

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

 Graduates who successfully complete the Master’s Program in Economics may apply to doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in accordance with the relevant regulations.  

[] Program Structure

The program is conducted through the coordinated efforts of the Head of Department, the Vice Head of Department, and the ECTS Coordinator.

Courses are delivered in accordance with the criteria and teaching methods determined by the instructor responsible for each course.

Students complete their coursework during the first two semesters and prepare their Master’s Thesis during the following two semesters. During the thesis period, students are also required to take a Specialization Course.

Students who successfully complete their thesis and receive approval from the Institute are considered to have successfully completed the program.

In order to graduate from the program, it is necessary to have completed the credit that must be completed within the program and to be successful in the master's thesis.
