The Medical Data Processing Technician Program is a two-year associate degree program aimed at training qualified technical personnel for the accurate, secure, and legally compliant recording, processing, storage, and reporting of medical data produced in healthcare institutions and organizations.

Within the program, students receive theoretical and practical training in areas such as medical terminology, health informatics, database usage, electronic health record systems, basic statistics, health legislation, personal data protection, and information security.

Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the digitalized data management processes in the healthcare sector and can work as medical data processing technicians in public and private healthcare institutions.

The aim of the Medical Data Processing Technician Program is to train qualified technical personnel who can participate in the processes of collecting, recording, processing, storing, and reporting medical data produced in healthcare institutions and organizations in accordance with legislation, ethical principles, and the principles of personal data protection.

The program aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills in medical terminology, health informatics, electronic health record systems, data management, basic statistics, and information security; and to develop professional competencies that will enable them to effectively contribute to the digitized data processes in healthcare services.

1. To provide students with fundamental knowledge and skills in medical terminology and health informatics.

2. To train technicians who can effectively use electronic health record systems used in healthcare institutions.

3. To provide professional competencies that will enable the accurate, secure, and legally compliant processing of medical data.

4. To raise awareness and a sense of responsibility among students regarding the protection of personal health data (KVKK) and information security.

5. To train qualified intermediate personnel who can participate in the analysis and reporting processes of health data.

6. To produce graduates who can adapt to the digitalization of healthcare processes, adhere to ethical values, and are adept at teamwork.

7. To ensure that graduates possess fundamental IT and communication skills that will enable them to continue their professional development.

[] Admission Requirements

Admission to the Medical Data Processing Technician Program is based on the results of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) conducted by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), in accordance with the principles determined by the Council of Higher Education.

To obtain an associate degree in Medical Data Processing Technology, students must successfully complete all courses in the program curriculum, earn a total of 120 ECTS credits, and complete their mandatory internship in accordance with relevant legislation.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

Students' prior knowledge, skills, and competencies are evaluated within the framework of the regulations of the Higher Education Council and the relevant university.

For students transferring horizontally or vertically, their prior learning is examined according to the relevant regulations, and exemption procedures are carried out for courses deemed appropriate.

Graduates of the Medical Data Processing Technician Program can work in public and private healthcare institutions and organizations in the processes of collecting, recording, processing, and reporting health data. Graduates can be employed in state and private hospitals, university hospitals, family health centers, medical centers, private clinics, provincial and district health directorates, companies operating in the field of health informatics, health data management and archiving units, and health data units of insurance companies.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

Graduates can transfer to relevant undergraduate programs determined by the Higher Education Council, primarily Health Management, Management Information Systems, and Information and Document Management, through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS).

[] Program Structure

The Medical Data Processing Technician Program is a two-year (four-semester) associate degree program. The program consists of theoretical and practical courses and is structured to develop students' professional knowledge and skills. Courses within the program cover medical terminology, health informatics, health data systems, electronic health records, basic statistics, information technologies, health legislation, personal data protection, and ethics. Throughout the program, students reinforce their professional competence through mandatory internships and practical courses that allow them to apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired. To complete the program, students must successfully complete 120 ECTS credits.

[] Examinations, Assessment and Grading

In the courses included in the program, students' success is measured and evaluated through midterm exams, final exams, make-up exams, practical exams, assignments, projects, and in-term work.

To graduate from the program, students must successfully complete all courses in the curriculum and obtain a total of 120 ECTS credits. The program lasts 2 years and consists of 4 semesters. Students must attend and successfully complete all courses in the curriculum and complete all work required by the Regulations and other relevant legislation. Additionally, students must successfully complete 70 working days of on-the-job vocational training. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.00 and have completed all other required work.
