The mission of Department of Abkhazian Language and Literature is to prepare its graduates to be equipped with a strong infrastructure, to gain working method and discipline able to do international-level scientific researches, to think creatively and critically, to ask the right questions , to find solutions, to follow new developments, to express themselves effectively, to be successful not only in Turkey but also in abroad; to provide them researches in the field of Abkhazian language and literature in a comparative approach on the basis of Turkish Higher Education, to develop critical and analytical approach while working on the linguistics and the use of language with the help of modern technology. Also department helps to contribute to the examination and the investigation of the cultural characteristics of Düzce region. Courses will be supported with trips and with visual and audio materials. Students graduating from the program may take part in Caucasian Languages and Cultures departments or in another related departments of other universities or can work as academics. Graduates also can be employed in the relevant areas of the state. They can serve in various educational institutions in the conditions stipulated by the ministry of education. Media, publishing, advertising, personnel management, human resources and art management is some of the other areas which they can work.
The aim of Abkhazian Language and Literature Department is to understand the structure and historical development of Abkhazian language, the authors of the works and works published in Abkhazian, the periods and types of Abkhazian literature, To understand the sound, meaning and structure of Abkhazian language, cultural political and social resources of Abkhazian literature; To educate language and literary researchers and scientists who can compare and contrast the characteristics of Abkhazian language and literature with the characteristics of other languages and literatures, learn and use research, analysis and comparison methods, and reflect all these achievements in a creative way between national culture and universal culture.
Abkhazian Language and Literature; Aims to reach a pioneering position at the level of language with this contribution which is provided by contributing to scientific studies at national and international level.
Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Bachelor's Degree in Department of Abkhazian Language and Literature.
It is a programme that provides undergraduate (first cycle) education.
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.
Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).
The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
In order to graduate from the program it is necessary to be successful in the courses within four years of education period. Circassian Language and Literature undergraduate programme was schemed to be a programme where formal education 240 ECTS credits is given to students.
The programme has common courses designated by University Senate along with the compulsory common courses and English course partaking in Higher Education Law.
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.
Recognition of Education Abroad
DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.
Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.
In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.
At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.
The students graduated from Department of Languages and Cultures of the Caucasus, from the Department of Language and Literature Department of Abkhazian are given Bachelor's degree of Abkhazian Language and Literature. Besides the necessary basic courses of Abkhazian Language and Literature Department, philological science related courses are also provided. The graduates of department continue their career as academics, teachers, researchers, translators and linguists. However, graduates of the department have chance of workin either on mass media, radio and television industries or on librarianship and record keeping areas. Scores of the graduates during studies and employment after graduation and their success in business life will show the success of the program.

Graduates will take the title of Abkhazian philologist / linguist. Graduates of this department can be employed primarily in philology institutions, libraries, archives and also visual and written media and information-related organizations. Furthermore, they can work in public and private foundations or associations and institutions which play a role on our country regarding the country's commercial, economic and scientific relations. Also they can be hired at the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Culture or in the relevant institutions in our country. Students who want to be philologist can deepen their knowledge of the area or can opt for an academic career by taking graduate education. Students who graduate from this department will also find the opportunity to work of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as private organizations in culture and tourism-related units. In addition, due to our country's rich cultural heritage the growing demand to the well-trained linguists by the state institutions and the increasing number of private organizations and the museums and various cultural units established by foundations expands the working area.

In order to graduate from the program it is necessary to be successful in the courses within four years of education period. Success criterion is determined by the marks got in the midterm and final exams. In addition, project preparation, being in on a study to reveal the creative aspects will also be an indicator for graduation. To graduate from the program, at least / minimum of 146 credits are required to take the course.
