This expertise program; Basic concepts in phytotherapy, quality and legal regulations in herbal medicines, herbal medicines used in phytotherapy according to systems in the body (such as central nervous system, endocrine system), production and analysis of herbal medicines, morphological and microscopic analysis of herbal drugs, pharmacopoeial analysis, herbal medicine use and design, traditional and other treatment systems, poisonous plants in Turkey, aromatherapy, production of medicinal plants, herbal drug interactions, herbal teas, nutritional supplements, preparations on the market, dermocosmetic products with natural ingredients; To train specialists who have the potential to comprehend phytotherapy, conduct phytotherapy researches and evaluate the results. It is aimed that the students graduating from this programme will be able to recognise the herbal medicinal drugs used in phytotherapy and to master the pharmacopoeia monograph analyses related to the drugs used in phytotherapy, to be equipped with the theoretical and practical knowledge of phytotherapy and to have the competencies of phytotherapy specialist needed in the biologically based pharmaceutical sector.

The aim of this program is to train experts who are included in the scope of this program and potential to reinforce the knowledge of Pharmacognosy, understand Phytotherapy, conduct phytoterapy researches and evaluate the results of these studies.. Also, to train the experts, equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge of phytotherapy, who can identify herbal drugs used in phytotherapy and have a command of monograph analysis related with the drugs used in phytotherapy and who meets the need for the specialists in the sector of drugs of biological origin.

Master’s Degree Programs (without thesis) consist of at least seven courses, one seminar, other educational activities and thesis that totals to a minimum of 21 National Credits and 120 ECTS. Students should take from courses and seminar, 60 ECTS from thesis. Non-thesis Master’s Degree Programs consist of at least 10 courses and semester project that totals to a minimum of 30 National Credits and 90 ECTS. In order to be successfull in a course, student’s grade must at least 2,75 out of 4.

To be a graduate of 4-year or 5-year pharmacy faculty, medical faculty and dentistry faculty.

Master’s Degree Programs (without thesis) consist of at least seven courses, one seminar, other educational activities and thesis that totals to a minimum of 21 National Credits and 120 ECTS. Students should take from courses and seminar, 60 ECTS from thesis. Non-thesis Master’s Degree Programs consist of at least 10 courses and semester project that totals to a minimum of 30 National Credits and 90 ECTS. In order to be successfull in a course, student’s grade must at least 2,75 out of 4.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

At Duzce University, students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related by laws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related graduate school after the evaluation of the course content.

[] Description of Program

The main goal of the program is to enable scientists to evaluate the important human health aspects of plants based on scientific findings. For this purpose, solutions of the phytotherapy products by applying current analytical tools to the roblems which can evaluate the effects of phytotherapy products on the prevention and treatment of disease, its effect, its dosage and its possible risks, which can evaluate the place of the herbal products in the scientific findings of the protection of human health and the treatment of diseases in the light of scientific discoveries and interpret the bioavailability, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of herbal components To produce strong graduates with professional and ethical values and communication skills.

1 Provides solutions to issues requiring expertise in the field of phytotherapy, solves problems, evaluates the results obtained and applies them when necessary.
2 Discusses and shares phytotherapy information, current developments and own studies systematically with groups in or outside the same field in written, verbal and visual format.
3 Knows the culture, harvest and drug preparation stages of medicinal plants and the methods of preparing extracts based on drugs.
4 It develops recommendations for the conscious and correct use of medicinal plants and takes the necessary initiatives to raise public awareness by developing strategies to prevent plant-drug interactions.
5 It evaluates current developments in the field of phytotherapy in line with national values ​​and country realities, including the child and the family, which are the basic units of society.
6 Develops strategies, policies and implementation plans on issues related to the field of phytotherapy and evaluates the results obtained within the framework of quality processes.
7 Contributes to national and international health policy studies to further advance the field of phytotherapy.

Program Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this programme, students will be able to:

  1. Have up-to-date knowledge in the fields of Phytotherapy and Phytopharmacy based on the knowledge and skills acquired through pharmacy education.
  2. Gives importance to professional development and lifelong learning, deepens his / her knowledge by following national / international developments in printed publications, technological tools and databases.
  3. Communicates with colleagues and other related professions in the field of health, shares ideas verbally and in writing with these professional groups on current issues.
  4. Conducts scientific studies in common areas with different disciplines by using computers, necessary technical equipment and devices and evaluates and interprets their results statistically.
  5. Takes part in national and international studies in the collection, interpretation and announcement of data related to Phytotherapy and Phytopharmacy in the field of health.
  6. Presents a study that he / she conducts or takes part in a scientific meeting, can publish it in a journal by turning it into an article.
  7. Uses the acquired knowledge in order to increase the health level and awareness of the society.
  8. Has knowledge about the design, production, properties, quality and analysis of phytotherapeutics and herbal medicinal products.
  9. Recognise the secondary metabolites found in medicinal plants, have knowledge about their formation, identification, obtaining and effects in plants.
  10. Has knowledge about disorders and diseases in the organism, knows the phytotherapeutics that can be used in these cases, their effects and side effects, doses and interactions.
  11. Has knowledge about complementary and alternative therapies and traditional treatment systems, shares his/her knowledge with the relevant people.
  12. Has an idea about the taxonomy of medicinal and poisonous plants and fungi, knows their microscopic, morphological and chemical properties, medicinal and toxic effects, shares their knowledge and has the authority to apply.
  13. Carries out pharmacopoeial analyses of herbal medicines, herbal medicinal products, medicinal plants, drugs and extracts and interprets the results.

Graduates of non-thesis programme cannot apply to doctorate programme.
