Forestry Faculty Wood Products Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Program, began teaching in the academic year 2013-2014 . Turkish is the medium of instruction.This program has a curriculum for researchers, planners, practitioners and managers that work in the institutions/organizations within the wood works industry and furniture sector. The courses designed under the theory of global competition, according to international standards to ensure production of quality wood-based works and furniture.

Our departmental mission is to produce information and train environmentally conscious students who  design wood products industrial engineering systems, analyse, implement, evaluate and review the results, take responsibility, respect professional and ethical values, do research, and share policy with the knowledge and confidence. We aim at the students having the principle  to be integrated with industry and and others with a strong social aspect.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Bachelor's Degree in Wood Products Industrial Engineering.

[] Admission Requirements

The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.

[] Course's Contrubution To Program

To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

The graduate program of Wood Products Industrial Engineering aims to train both academics and experts in order to fulfil the requirements for establishing the interdisciplinary relations in the fields of wood products industry, furniture sector, and other related fields. The objective of the program tends to expect the abilities for research and development of solutions in theoretical issues for candidates considering the social, industrial and environmental problems, emphasizing development in the wood products industry and furniture sector in the context of global competition.

1 Students gain an advanced and contemporary knowledge and practical skill after general or vocational high school qualification. To obtain an ability to support his/her knowledge and practical skill with technical sources and equipment and to use basic and principle technical terminology of wood works industrial engineering. Student gain an insight to the subject to analyze, discuss, evaluate and bring about solutions for the problems in metal technologies and related teaching subjects. He/She gains an ability to solve problems in wood works industrial engineering using general and foundational since and knowledge.
2 Student can gather and use data to solve well defined problems on wood works industrial engineering subjects. He/She can efficiently use his or her practical and knowledge skills in practical applications. Students know general definitions of engineering drawing subject; he/she can read engineering drawings in wood works industrial engineering and also can design using computer programs. Students are familiar to measuring equipment used in wood works industrial engineering he/she has knowledge and practice to use and maintenance of measuring equipment.
3 Student can gather and use data to solve well defined problems on wood works industrial engineering subjects. He/She can efficiently use his or her practical and knowledge skills in practical applications. Students know general definitions of engineering drawing subject; he/she can read engineering drawings in wood works industrial engineering and also can design using computer programs. Students are familiar to measuring equipment used in wood works industrial engineering he/she has knowledge and practice to use and maintenance of measuring equipment.
4 To gain theoretical and practical skills in joining of furniture materials, implementing quality control in furniture structures and to give training on these subjects.
5 To obtain an adequate theoretical knowledge and practical skills on wood finishing process, furniture design, perspective, wooden surface decoration, modern furniture production techniques and mass production techniques and to use these techniques in teaching and training in vocational schools. Tracing any faults of furniture machines and providing for necessary maintenance and repairing.
6 To obtain an adequate theoretical knowledge and practical skills on composite materials, general structure of wood material, furniture strength, bonding technology, classic furniture design, furniture styles, classic furniture production, production and facility planning and to use these techniques in teaching and training in vocational schools.
7 Students gain skills for technical communication and team work with his/her colloquies and superior on subjects related to furniture technology and wood works industrial engineering such as design and practice. He/she has an ability to use Turkish language effectively in his/her personal or official communication. He/She has skill to represent his company/institution, sharing technical and intuitional information in electronic environment by oral or written communication.
8 Gaining ability to self-learning and also implementing his/her learning subject on wood works industrial engineering. To gain skill to conduct research on his/her subject personally and present results as technical reports. Monitoring new improvements and updating him/herself continuously and also updating and upgrading these improvements to his/her institution.
9 Having use of foreign languages can make communication and follow up new technologies in wood works industrial engineering.
10 Having adequate knowledge level for occupational requirement about software and hardware, computing skill to use office software, internet communication and some CAD sofware such as AutoCAD, 3Dmax. etc.
11 Having an adequate knowledge of health and safety in furniture work sectors and also knowledge of social security, ethic values, quality assurance systems, management and environment.
12 Being aware of Atatürk’s principles and his revolutions.
13 Students have enough theoretical and practical knowledge of teaching on wood works industrial engineering subjects.
14 Having ability to evaluate student’s progress and activities, he/she also provide for an environment to evaluate students each other. He/she can use and share the results obtained from evaluations to make improvements in teaching and training activities.

The wood products industrial engeneers awarded with the graduate degree of Wood Products Industrial Engineer can be recruited under design, research and development, manufacturing, management sections of privite companies in wood products industry and furniture sector, academic, consultancy establishments such as Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Environment and Urbanism, universities, institutes, and other institutions during education and after graduation.

Upon successful completion of the undergraduate program graduates to obtain the current note ALES, English language proficiency to ensure that the condition may apply to graduate programs in their respective fields and multi-disciplinary areas shall be considered as if they are successful in the exam and the interview.

[] Program Structure

Wood Prodcuts Industrial Engineering Department, 183  undergraduate program credits and 240 ECTS credits to be arranged locally.

Common Core Courses in the program with the Law on Higher Education in English and other common courses determined by the University Senate is located.

The students of the Department of Wood Products Industrial Engineering 7.Semester necessarily have to end in the form of industrial application. Students internships, professional competencies and develop the student's major industrial organizations and government institutions and organizations related to the field can.

[] Examinations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment and grading method applied for each course is defined in detail on a semester basis by the course coordinator in the student information system (OBS).

[] Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate from Departmant Of Wood Products Industrial Engineering, the total number of national credits that students have to complete is 185, of which 48 are elective courses. The amount of ECTS credits is determined as 240 for each semester. Departmat of Wood Products Industrial Engineering is 4 years. During the semester 14 weeks of each course; together with midterm, homework, project etc. evaluation activities and final exams at the end of the semester. In addition, for graduation, the student must have completed a successful internship in the industry for a total of 48 business days (24 + 24). The internship has not been credited with the program as it is a prerequisite for graduation. Experience and required workload of the internship are taken into account in the content, application and workloads of the related courses in the program. In addition to this, the student is also asked to make a Final Thesis, which he will prepare at the end of a project work, and an oral thesis presentation for this work. In order to qualify for graduation, Courses in the curriculum should be successful from the beginning, be at least 2.50 (out of 4.0) level of weighted overall average grade and have completed all other studies.
