Political Science and Public Administration are two closely related fields. The discipline of Political Science examines the activities that people are trying to make, protect and change the general rules governing their lives. The main topics of Political Science are political theory, political thought, political institutions and political participation. The discipline of Public Administration examines decisions and policy making processes in a managerial system. Public administration deals with the organization, management and implementation of public policies. Political Science and Public Administration will help us understand the political, social and economic processes at the local and universal levels. To this end, the department offers its students an interdisciplinary program nourished from the fields of political science, management science, history, sociology, law and economics.

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded the degree of "Bachelor of Science" in Political Science and Public Administration.

[] Admission Requirements

The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.

[] Course's Contrubution To Program

The students studying in this program are required to have a Cumulative Grade Points Average (Cum. GPA) of not less than 2.50/4.00 and have completed all the courses with at least a letter grade of DD in the program in order to graduate.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

At Düzce University, students can be exempted from some courses within the framework of the related bylaws. If the content of the course previously taken in another institution is  at least 80% equivalent to the course load offered at Düzce University, then the student can be exempted from this course with the approval of the related faculty after the evaluation of the course content.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration examines the theoretical analysis of political systems and political behavior, as well as the construction and practice of public policies.

1 Being able to comprehend the basic concepts and theoretical knowledge in the field of Political Science and Public Administration and grasp their details.
2 To have the knowledge of political science, political theory, public administration, international relations, political history, law, economics and business required in a qualified employee who is demanded by the public and private sectors
3 Analyzing and evaluating hypothetical knowledge as well as offering solutions in the field of Political Science and Public Administration
4 Taking responsibility in studies related to the field of political science and public administration and being able to arrange and independently conduct such studies
5 Being able to evaluate the knowledge that is acquired during the education period through building cause-effect relations; being able to foresee what kind of knowledge is required in which situation
6 Having competence of written and verbal communication in Turkish; being able to speak a foreign language at a level to exchange ideas on the field of international relations
7 Being conscious about the social, scientific and professional ethics; being open to change and new ideas
8 Being able to offer and share alternative solutions in the field of public administration with awareness for lifelong learning and critical thinking

[] Professional Profile of Graduates

Being one of the few faculties of Political Sciences in our country, our faculty provides its student a multidisciplined education program. In this respect, the institutions that our graduates can work include the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Undersecretariat of Foreign Trade, different units of local governments, private companies and financial institutions.


Graduates of Political Science and Public Administration may also have the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies and a career in the academic world.

[] Examinations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation System

Students are subjected to final exam except from other exams works and  that are taken before. For each semester, at least one midterm exam is done. Other exams such as quizzes can be done without giving a concrete date. Criteria for evaluating success depends on midterm exam, homework and final exam, etc) and rates of these are published in syllabus on web. Final exams are done according to the date and place decided by University Senate. Students’ final grades for the semester, with midterm exam, final exam grades and the projects in the course of the term and semester are important elements that are valued by concerned subject’s lecturer.

The lessons that have no midterm or final exam will be decided by directorate of the concerned departments or schools and be delivered to inform Registrar’s Office. And overall of grades and projects’ results are determined by all these works and study. Final results of the Semester with evaluation criteria are decided by concerned lecturer and delivered to Registrar’s Office.

Norms and terms of Evaluation

Our University’s regulations of Senate, Bachelor's Degree are indicated below.

Regulation of Bachelor Degree (Reg 2-Y2): With the date 24.08.2011, 28035 number that is published and became valid in Official Gazette. Efforts and works, midterm exam results, participation are evaluated according to the form that is handed by lecturer in the beginning of the term given to the head office of the department and scores of the lesson  compensates letter mark  done in the course of the semester. Letter marks and coeffiency are stated below.

In the end of the forth year, students whose Grade Point Average is  2.50 after passing all the lessons in the curriculum are regarded as successful.
