With the letter of Higher Education Council dated 08/01/2016 and 75850160-104.01.02.01 / 843, the Education / Teaching / Hearing / Visually Impaired and Gifted Education Programs have been closed and special education. Starting from the 2018-2019 academic year, our university has been evaluating the Special Education Teaching undergraduate program at the Faculty of Education.
Our priority philosophy as Special Education Teaching program is to train qualified teacher candidates in the field. For this purpose, it is aimed to enable Special Education Teachers to be trained in our faculty to gain experience in as many and different environments as possible. Thus, pre-service teachers are given the opportunity to experience the theoretical knowledge they learned in the lessons in practical life. It is thought that prospective teachers who started to interact with individuals with special needs since the first years of the program will adopt their professions better and become more competent teachers with their extensive experience.
The program includes compulsory, field knowledge, special education vocational knowledge, general culture and practical lessons. The aim of the special education teaching program is to train teachers who are equipped with theoretical and applied knowledge and skills, aiming to ensure that individuals who need special education are independent, active and productive in social life like other individuals. In addition, the program aims to produce and apply academic knowledge in the field of education of individuals with special needs.

To provide all individuals with special needs the skills necessary to live independently. To meet and support the needs of families. To provide support services to children and their families with special needs. To inform the society about individuals with special needs and special education services. To actively participate in the process of determining special education policies. To ensure that special education services are expanded and developed. To ensure that special education services are carried out as part of general education services. To ensure that the needs of individuals with special needs are met in the least restrictive environments. To increase the quality of special education services. To train special education specialists providing qualified services. To lead the researches to be carried out in all areas of special education. To train qualified special education teachers required by the country. To train staff who know and use different teaching methods. To provide special education teachers with interdisciplinary working skills. To train special education teachers who are sensitive to the problems of the field and can produce solutions. To train staff in accordance with the ethical rules of the profession.

To create a researcher, participant, sharing, modern teaching culture that produces universal quality information for the education and participation of individuals with special needs, and to train teachers who are professionally competent, respectful of social and professional values.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Bachelor's Degree in Special Education Teaching.

Bachelor's degree

The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.

To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.

Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

Special Education Department is an undergraduate program which consists of therotical and practical classes. The main purpose of the program is to educate special educators who will able to work with the children, families, teachers, administrators and community leaders in order to meet the needs of the children with mental retardation and their families. There are some required courses which include field knowledge, teaching profession, general culture and practice in this program. Students can also take elective courses. Lessons are carried out theoretically and practically. Theoretical courses are carried out in classes equipped with technological facilities.

9	Develops teaching and evaluation materials appropriate to the needs of individuals with special needs in order to increase the effectiveness of teaching.
10	Uses effective teaching methods to support motor, social, cognitive and academic development of individuals with special needs.
11	Uses effective teaching methods for individuals with special needs to support their independent living and self-determination skills.
12	Uses effective behavior change and classroom management strategies.
13	Uses effective strategies for supporting alternative communication skills of individuals with special needs.
14	Uses information technology effectively in teaching planning and implementation process.
15	Collaborates with families and other professionals in order to improve the effectiveness of teaching and continuity.
16	Makes family education to ensure continuity of instruction at home.
17	Directs individuals with special needs and their families for accessing to community resources.
18	Uses the ways effectively to access information for personal and professional development.
19	Acts in accordance with professional regulations and the ethical principles.
20	Creates a positive, secure, value differences, egalitarian and supportive learning environment.

Graduates of this program are designated in public and private primary and secondary special education schools, rehabilitation centers and counceling and research centers which are affiliated with Ministry of National Education as "special education teacher." Moreover they can work in institutions which are affliated with Turkish Social Service and Children Protection Institution. In addition they can work as academicians in various universities if they complete their postgraduate studies.

Graduates of this field can continue to master or doctorate programs if they can meet the required conditions.
