[] About Program

    KMYO Emergency and Disaster Management Associate Degree Programme aims to train intermediate staff with technical knowledge and application experience who can take an active role in emergency and disaster management, especially emergency and disaster planning, crime scene management, coordination, logistics units within the framework of disaster hazard and risk assessment, risk and mitigation, disaster preparedness, disaster response and improvement studies.

[] Goals

It envisages to be a programme based on the sustainability of the activities carried out in disasters and emergencies, focusing on risk management, crisis management, paying attention to reliability and taking part in the creation of a disaster culture.

[] Objectives

Based on the fact that disasters are inevitable, the mission of the Emergency and Disaster Management program, which aims to reduce disaster damages and effects, and to take precautions; He defined it as "Creating a Disaster Culture". Earthquakes, floods, landslides, rockfalls, droughts, storms, tsunamis and many other disasters have devastating effects on people, the environment and the economy. It is possible to increase people's resilience to stand up against destructive effects. Increasing the said resilience will minimize the effects and damages of disasters and will minimize the recovery time of the society after the disaster. It has determined its Emergency and Disaster Management mission with this perspective.

Students who successfully complete this program are entitled to receive a technician degree.
[] Earned Level of Qualification
This program is an associate degree program.
[] Admission Requirements
The program accepts students with the ÖSYM (TYT) score. A student who has started his education in an equivalent program in Turkey or abroad can apply for horizontal transfer. Acceptance of students is examined and evaluated individually, before the semester starts, taking into account the conditions of each student and the degree to which they apply.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
  • Students must successfully complete all of the courses available in the program (total 122 ECTS) and have at least 50 points out of 100 for each course. They must achieve at least 2.00 General Weighted Grade Point Average (GANO) out of 4.00. In addition, they must be successful by getting at least DD grade from all the courses prescribed in the curriculum. It is also compulsory for students to complete their compulsory internship within the specified period.

    
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.
[] Description of Program
    Emergency and Disaster Management Programme was established in 2016 within Düzce University, Kaynaşlı Vocational School Directorate. It started education at Kaynaşlı Vocational School in 2019-2020 academic year. The aim of this programme is to provide two-year (four semesters) associate degree education within the scope of two-year (four semesters) associate degree education and within the scope of Article 4 and 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547. In line with the main principles specified in subparagraphs a and b of Article 4 and Article 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, in order to meet the need for expert personnel trained in the field of EMERGENCY AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT, all kinds of emergency centres, civil defence teams, fire brigades, related public institutions and organisations and especially AFAD, who can work in expert positions, who know and apply the basic methods applied in this field, who can also provide the training required by the subject to the existing staff working within the unit where they are assigned, and who have the ability to direct and manage the unit to be assigned. Turkish and formal education is provided within the scope of first education. With the 30-day internship practice, it is aimed to prepare and adapt easily to the business life after graduation by putting the theoretical education given to the individual into practice.

1- Sharing the thoughts and solution offers to problems related with his/her field with experts and non-experts by supporting them with qualitative and quantitative data.

2- Informing the people and institutions related with his/her field; expressing the thoughts and solution offers to problems both written and verbally.

3- Using the knowledge about human health and environment awareness related with the field for the benefit of society.

4- Taking responsibility as an individual or a member of team in order to solve the unforeseen problems encountered in filed related applications.

5- Acting properly according to the social, scientific, cultural and ethical values in the phases of collecting, interpreting and applying the field

6- Approaching the acquired advanced level knowledge of the field with a critical approach.

7- Interpreting and evaluating the acquired advanced filed knowledge and skills, defining problems that are in correlation with the up-to-date technological progresses, analyzing them, producing solution offers depending on researches and facts.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates
Graduates from the Emergency and Disaster Management program, in line with their competencies, provincial directorates affiliated to the Disaster and Emergency Directorate, Disaster Management and Coordination Centers, fire departments, civil defense search and rescue units, private sector and non-governmental organizations in areas related to disaster management, public institutions and their organizations (hospitals, schools, etc.) and the relevant units of local governments, international organizations, and disaster management organizations.
[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
Horizontal and vertical transitions of program students will be possible in line with the relevant legislation of YÖK on graduation dates. As of 2019, the undergraduate programs that Emergency and Disaster Management program graduates can pass by entering the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) according to their undergraduate graduation areas are as follows:

[] Program Structure
Emergency and Disaster Management Program is organized as 107 credits and 122 ECTS.
The program includes the Common Compulsory Courses in the Higher Education Law and other common courses determined by the English and University Senate.
Emergency and Disaster Management Program students have to do an internship for 30 working days.

Students who have successfully completed these courses by enrolling in the course plans of the associate degree programs they are enrolled in, and who have successfully completed the studies such as the internship shown in the Düzce University Associate and Undergraduate Education and Training and Examination Regulations are considered to have completed their university education.
