[] About Program

 The Primary Teaching Programme was founded to meet the need of Ministry of National Education for primary school teachers in the Elementary Education Department at the Duzce Faculty of Education in academic year of 2011-2012. The language of instruction is Turkish and education period is 4 years. The program consists of mandatory field courses, general culture courses, teacher educational courses and practical courses. In addition, students may also choose from elective courses. The courses are carried out theoretically and practically. The Bachelor's Degree in Primary Teaching (first cycle in Primary Teaching) is awarded to the graduates who have successfully completed all courses (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS) in the curriculum The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines. In academic year of 2023-2024 programme has total of 9 teaching staff at different fields of expertise (2 Professors, 3 associate professors, 2 doctoral faculty member, and 2 research assistant).

[] Admission Requirements
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.
[] Description of Program

The Program of Primary School Education is a bachelor's degree program in the Department of Elementary Education in the Faculty of Education. There are some required courses which include field knowledge, teaching profession, general culture and practice in this program. Students can also take elective courses. Lessons are carried out theoretically and practically. Theoretical courses are carried out in classes equipped with technological facilities.

6 Is aware of the theoretical foundations (philosophical, sociological, psychological, historical, legal, economic, etc.) on which education is based and reflects these theories in their practices.
7 Is aware of the attitude, responsibility, and ethical values related to the teaching profession and behaves accordingly.
8 Plans, implements, and evaluates the learning-teaching process effectively, considering the curricula' basic concepts, principles, and characteristics.
9 Designs and manages an effective and supportive learning environment based on learning and teaching theory, approach, strategy, methods, and instructional technologies in creating the learning-teaching process.
10 Follows the innovation, development, and 21st-century skills in the teaching profession and reflects these developments and skills to research and practice based on scientific principles.
11 Uses Turkish properly and effectively per the rules and communicates well with students.
12 Adheres to Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions and exhibits attitudes and behaviors toward democracy, human rights, and Turkish national, moral, and cultural values.
13 Knows at least one foreign language at a level to monitor and communicate with colleagues.
14 Is aware of the importance of willing and active participation in cultural, social, environmental, artistic and sportive activities for the teaching profession, to be an effective global citizen.
15 Acts sensitively to local and global events and developments and participates in projects and activities to support society's development, with a sense of social responsibility.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates

Graduates of the Primary Education Program receive the “Classroom Teacher” title and they can work at state or private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. Our graduates also find jobs at private training centers, companies that develop and market educational materials, publishing companies, and universities for an academic career.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

[] Program Structure

Primary Education Program is a 4 year program. 53% of the program courses are basic field courses, 25% of them are teacher profession courses, 22% of them are general culture courses. Students are also required to take elective courses that are equivalent to 33% of the compulsory course credits. Students may choose elective courses from the Primary Education program or from other programs in the Elementary Education Department.

[] Graduation Requirements
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.50 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS). In addition, those who have graduated from recent students and have the right to graduate by taking single-double course exams if they fail no more than two (courses).
