Department of Turkish language and literature commenced undergraduate program in 2010

The aim of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature undergraduate Program is to educate qualified people who recognize the Turkish language in its historical process from the beginning to these days, evaluate the old texts in terms of philology and literature, and contribute to its development and to protect it from the influence of foreign languages In addition, are able to transfer their consciousness to future generations. It is also important to train specialists who complete their basic education and prepare a master degree program. İt is also aimed to upskill the ability to express emotions, thoughts and knowledge in the most effective way, verbally and in writing as a Turkish citizen. In order to raise awareness that there is a strong relation between Turkish culture and history and Turkish language and literature, the lessons are given in connection with science branches such as history, sociology, anthropology, archeology, folklore, geography, ethnography.

There is no Preparatory Program (English) in Turkish language and literature department. Language education is taught in compulsory courses during the 3rd and 4th semesters. Care is taken to ensure that the compulsory courses are scheduled to meet new needs. In Department of Turkish Language and Literature undergraduate Program, starting from the 3rd semester; there are elective courses that students can take with their free will accordance with their interests and abilities.

The department consists of five branches of education: Classical Turkish Literature, Old Turkic Language, Modern Turkish Literature, New Turkish Language and Turkish Folk Literature.

The purpose of the department of Turkish language and literature in the framework of the Turkish Higher education is to train language and literature researchers who know structure and historical development of the Turkish language, Turkish was introduced by the authors of the works and the works which are periods of Turkish literature, types, form and content characteristic; grasp culturel, political and social concepts of Turkish literature; compare properties of Turkish language and literature with other language and literature features, use research, analysis and comparison methods moreover reflect all these gainslike between national culture and universal culture by creative mind.

The goal of the Department of Turkish Language and Literatere is to contribute to the scientific study which is located national and international level. With this contrubition which provides; is to achieve a leading position at the undergradute level.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Bachelor's Degree in Department of Turkish Language and Literature.

It is a programme that provides undergraduate (first cycle) education.
[] Admission Requirements
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
  To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in Düzce University might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of Düzce University, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad


Düzce University recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established. Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits. In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in Düzce University, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved. At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

  Turkish language and literature department consists of the five main branches of sciences which are called Old Turkish Language, New Turkish Language, Classical Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature and Turkish Folk Literature.

1 Achieves proficiency in using the Turkish language correctly and clearly by analyzing its structural and morphological features.
2 Examines texts of Turkish language and literature from its origin to the present from both literary and philological perspectives.
3 Acquires the theoretical and practical foundation necessary for interpreting both historical and contemporary texts.
4 Develops critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and interpretative skills for textual analysis.
5 Gains the fundamental knowledge and competencies required to conduct academic research individually or collaboratively in the field of Turkish language and literature.
6 Demonstrates the ability to produce, organize, store, present, and share knowledge in the field of Turkish language and literature through the use of information technologies.
7 Has knowledge of the alphabets used in historical and modern Turkic dialects and conducts philological studies by transcribing these texts into contemporary Turkish.
8 Develops a strong sense of academic ethics and responsibility, along with the confidence to express critical opinions constructively.
9 Applies the acquired knowledge and skills in Turkish language and literature to interdisciplinary projects within the broader field of social sciences.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates
Students who graduate can work in various fields. If they want to work as a teacher, they can work at depended on the ministry of National education in schools. Also If they want to be academicians, they can continue to study at university. Besides, they can be anchor and  journalist in TRT or another news organization.
[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
Turkish language and literature department students who have completed successfully can apply for master's and doctoral programs which related to this field that consist of Old Turkish Language, New Turkish Language, Classical Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature and Turkish Folk Literature.

*In this program contain common courses as determined by the University Senate, compulsory courses which is located in High Education Law and English.

[] Graduation Requirements
  The total credit which the students of Turkish Language and Literature should complete is 170, the 40 of them are elective courses. The ECTS credit is defined as 30 for each term, the total amount od credit is 240. The education time of the department of Turkish Language and Literature is four years. During the 14 weeks period for each semester,there are midterms, homeworks, projects etc. and other activities together with final exams. For having right to graduate, the students must attend the classes and be successful, their GPA's must be at least 2.50 and complete the other studies.
