Department of Performing Arts has
been established in the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture in 2010. There
are four Assistant Professors and one Lecturer. Education
in Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy Programme started in the academic year
2018-2019.
The focus of Theatre Criticism
and Dramaturgy Programme is training sophisticated, creative, productive performing
arts theoreticians, critics and dramaturgs, who would generate dramatic
repertoire including stage, screen, radio and commercials. Therefore, the
education plan is composed of courses that are prepared by taking the national
and international criteria into account. The education plan is flexible so that it can
be updated every year and includes courses that are related to different
disciplines.
Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy Programme
adopts an academic structure that is contemporary, open to innovations and
sharing, as well as attaching importance to human values.
Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy Programme
aims to train performing arts theoreticians, critics and dramaturgs, who are aware
of social and cultural facts, follow the up-to-date developments in art,
produce original works, are open to innovations, and are equipped with
artistic/academic knowledge and skills that meet the needs of our country. For this purpose, it prepares a student-centred environment that is composed of theoretical and practical courses, at which the students can discuss, and express themselves freely.
Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy programme, at which all written narrative forms are studied, and basic principles and elements of the aesthetics of the art of drama are taught, puts emphasis on the scientific aspect of theatre and focuses on the education of theatre theory and criticism. It aims to train performing arts theoreticians, critics and dramaturgs, who would work for international recognition of our country and improvement of the existing quality of the field of performing arts theory and criticism.

8 | Has the knowledge and aesthetic sensibility, which provide him/her working alone or with his/her colleagues in a concordant and productive manner within project production processes that are related to the art of drama. |
9 | Has the communicative skill of transmitting subjects and works that are related to the art of drama to not only his colleagues but also to other members of society in an active and correct manner, as well as the analytical power of evaluating the results of this. |
10 | Following the contemporary developments in the field of performing arts in Turkey and abroad, has the knowledge concerning national and international values. |
11 | Improves his/her skills in critical and creative thinking, as well as expressing his/her thoughts in oral, embodied and written forms. |
12 | Has the knowledge of theatre’s connections with other arts (literature, cinema, opera, music, dance, painting, sculpture, etc.), as well as social sciences (philosophy, anthropology, sociology, aesthetics, art history, political sciencee, etc.) and makes research and production in his/her own field by using this interdisciplinary viewpoint. |
