Düzce University Faculty of Science and Letters Department of Archeology started its education and training life in the 2013-2014 academic year. There are a total of four departments in our relatively new department. These are: Department of Prehistory, Department of Protohistory and Near-Asian Archeology, Department of Classical Archeology and Department of Medieval Archeology. Dr. Yasemin Yılmaz) (Department of Prehistory) Dr. Lecturer Member Nurperi Ayengin (Head of the Department of Protohistory and Near-Asian Archaeology) Dr. Lecturer It consists of 6 faculty members in total, including Safiye Aydın (Head of the Department of Medieval Archeology). There are four research laboratories in our department used for analyzes for archaeological research.
The mission of the department of archaeology is to raise individuals who can evaluate how develop of civilizations and their elapsed stages have to scientifically until today, can apply the gained knowledge to create and improve the protection awareness of cultural heritage in the community, can be applied developing new scientific and technological methods in archaeology, who can create value by making qualified studies in academical life.
The vision of the department of archaeology is to be a deparment which contribute to scientific studies at the national and international level in Prehistoric Deparment, Protohistory and Archaology of Asia Minor Deparment, Classic Archaeology Deparment and contributing to the science of Archaeology such as Archaeo-Antropology, Archaeo-Botanic, Archaeo-Zoology areas.
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.
Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).
The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
The objective of the undergraduate programme in Biology is to bring up individuals who will be aware of the big role and importance of analytical and critical thinking, sensitive towards the social problems; therefore, they will be able to analyze the problems also find solutions to these problems. The programme also is aiming to bring up individuals who are interested in researches and they will have the chance to to catch the opportunity to find satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and research centers, both in private and state sectors.

In addition to working in the academic field with the academic staff training programs (ÖYP) opened by the new universities and YÖK as researchers in the archeology departments of the universities, the graduates of this department are employed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (KUDEB) with the KPSS exam, they will be able to find work opportunities in private and cultural units of private organizations in visual and written bases.
Graduate students of Archaeology programme may apply to study in graduate programmes.
* Archaeology undergraduate programme was schemed
to be a programme where formal education with 155 local credit and 240 ECTS
credits is given to students.
* The programme has common courses designated by
University Senate along with the compulsory common courses and English course
partaking in Higher Education Law.
* Students are not required to participate in
any summer practice to be graduated.
The total amount of local credits students need to complete to graduate from the department of Archaeology is 155, 36 of which constituted by elective courses, and the total amount of ECTS credit amount specified is 240 by completing 30 at each semester. The period of study for the department of Archaeology consists of 4 years. In every semester, there are assessment tools such as midterm exam, homework, project, etc during the 14 weeks of semester and a final exam at the end of the semester. Moreover, students are required to write a graduation thesis as an optional.
