[] About Program

Founded in 2013 within Faculty of Humanities and Sciences, the Department of History Undergraduate programme consists of the following sub-departments: Department of Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, Modern History and History of the Republic of Turkey. İn this context, Department of History that target to teach, political, social, economic, and cultural contexts through time and their contributions to the civilization in the World. Also it is research relevant subject in Academic level. Department of History purpose contributing local research, therefore will be taken place to courses which regards cultural heritage of region of Duzce and Black Sea.  There are 2 Full Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 2 Research Assistants.

To investigate and develop language, thought, culture and civillization world of humanity within the scope of interdicsiplinary collaboration,to produce knowledge,to share the results with society and to train qualified people.

To provide the students with the ability to use the methodological methods to connect academic writing and criticism and synthesis. To provide students with the practical use of the theoretical knowledge taught in this framework.

[] Admission Requirements
The admission of students to the programmes is made according to the Student Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM – University entrance exam) within the framework set by the regulations of Higher Education Council (HEC). After students inform the Student Selection and Placement Centre about what programmes they want to study at, students are placed in the related programmes according to their scores they got from the exam.

Foreign students are admitted to the related programmes with the scores of internationally acceptable exams such as SAT, ACT or are admitted to the related programmes with their high school graduation grades (Undergraduate and Graduate Programmes for Foreign Students Admission Guidelines).

The admission of students of General Academic Exchange Protocol to the related programmes are done within the framework of the bilateral agreements (ERASMUS, FARABI, etc) signed between Duzce University and the partner universities. Guest students may enrol into the courses in this programme, if the related academic unit approves. Sufficient language knowledge is required to monitor the programme.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
To complete the available courses in the program (a total of 240 ECTS) successfully, the students have to get at least 50 points out of 100 and required to achieve 2.50 on a 4.00 weighted grade point average. To graduate from the programs students should get at least DD in all of the courses provided. Students are also required to complete the compulsory practice in the specified time.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

This programme consists of six departments:

General Turkish History,

Early Modern History,

Contemporary History,

History of the Republic of Turkey.

The objective of the undergraduate programme in History is to bring up individuals who will be aware of the big role and importance of analytical and critical thinking, sensitive towards the social problems; therefore, they will be able to analyze the problems also find solutions to these problems. The programme also is aiming to bring up individuals who are interested in researches and they will have the chance to to catch the opportunity to find satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and research centers, both in private and state sectors.

1 The students gain the ability to produce scientific knowledge and analyze a history of the discipline of history method.
2 The students gain information about past and present historiographical and schools in the world and in Turkey, they recognize new schools and evaluate the effects of date.
3 The students understand and penetrate historically, developing the ability to identify problems, deeply into every aspect of historical events.
4 The students will have the ability to comprehend current events and processes the relationship between the past. They will be able to relate to local and oral history research through the unique a relationship between what is universal is the winner.
5 The students gain the ability to present historical texts, analyze, criticize, and is capable of analyzing and summarizing the subject as a foundation sources, making transcription, reporting, and notification scientific meetings etc.
6 Historical problems, academic / ability to approach the objective of making winning the reasoning and analytical thinking skills are developed by the students.
7 The students obtain information at a basic level Ancient and Islamic history, Islam before and after the Turkish history, Ottoman and Republican history, such as European and World history about all periods of history, learn the basic problems and within these periods can be compared.
8 The students can use acquired knowledge and skills in the field of history, social sciences, studies conducted in conjunction with other areas.
9 The students get knowledge of the interpretation about Ottoman, European and World History and have the skills to make comparison and analysis.
10 The students gain the habit of using the library and archives and the ability, learn ways of doing research on a topic and use them in other areas of life.
11 The students Specific analyze tools for working with documents that are required for certain periods, historical texts (paleography, epigraphy, etc.), inscriptions and epitaphs, and gain the skills to use source texts in various languages.
12 The students adopt the importance of lifelong learning and folllow developments in contemporary issues and develop self; they get scientific ethics and consciousness of responsibility.
13 The students gain the skills to use and the information bibliographical repertoires, archival inventories, information retrieval tools, such as electronic references. By using internet technologies in the field of information and knowledge creation, editing, forwarding, storage, and sharing presentations is capable of (They capable of knowledge creation, editing, forwarding, storage, and sharing presentations by using internet technologies in the field of information).
14 The students capable of independent decision-making and individual study skills. They gain confidence to express their ideas and criticism in a constructive manner, oral and written and a clear and concise manner.

Graduates of this section , particularly public institutions, libraries, archives, including visual and written media and information-related or career can be employed in various organizations . Students wishing to become a history teacher taking pedagogical formation also depends on the Ministry of Education can work as a history teacher at the school . Students also deepen their knowledge of the area or can opt for an academic career by taking graduate education . In addition, graduates of the department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the various units , as well as private institutions of culture and tourism-related units will also find the opportunity to work . In addition, our country's rich cultural heritage due to the state institutions and the increasing number of private organizations and foundations established by the museums and various cultural units of foreign language skills in the field of well-trained historians increasingly demand to be heard in the work area is expanding .

Graduate students of this programme may apply to study in graduate programmes.
[] Program Structure
History undergraduate programme was schemed to be a programme where formal education with 150 local credit and 240 ECTS credits is given to students.  The programme has common courses designated by University Senate along with the compulsory common courses and English course partaking in Higher Education Law. Students are not required to particapate in any summer practice to be graduated.

[] Graduation Requirements

The education period of the History Department is 4 years. During the semester course process, there are mid-term exams, homework, projects, etc. and final exams at the end of the semester. In addition, students are required to prepare a graduation thesis. For graduation, students must have successfully passed all courses and have no FF or DZ grades. In this programme, students are required to complete a minimum of 242 ECTS credits and have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
