Within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Department of History began admitting students to its undergraduate program in 2013. The department includes the following academic divisions:

In this context, the History Department aims to teach the political, social, economic, and cultural developments of societies throughout history, as well as their contributions to world civilization, while conducting academic research in these fields. Additionally, by including courses on the cultural heritage of Düzce and the Black Sea region, the department seeks to contribute to local historical studies. The department currently has 3 Professors, 2 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors, and 2 Research Assistants.
The department’s highly qualified faculty members actively continue their scholarly work through numerous national and international publications and research projects. Moreover, the History Department offers a rich curriculum with language courses such as Arabic, Persian, French, Ottoman Turkish, and Ancient Greek, enabling students to gain proficiency in both primary and modern research languages. Through bilateral agreements with various European universities—particularly in France, Germany, and Italy—the department also encourages the internationalization of its students within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. In addition, students are offered the opportunity to pursue a minor program.
The objective of the Department of History is to educate students who possess a strong academic foundation, are equipped with the methods and discipline required to conduct scientific research at an international level, are self-confident, capable of creative thinking, able to produce solutions, follow new developments, and achieve success not only in Türkiye but also abroad. In line with the fundamental values of the Republic of Türkiye and the main aims of Turkish Higher Education, the department seeks to enable students to understand the history of Türkiye more comprehensively within the broader frameworks of human history and world history through a comparative approach. It also aims to develop students’ critical and analytical skills while working with written and visual historical sources by making use of contemporary technologies. Another goal is to contribute to the study of the historical and cultural characteristics of the Düzce region. Courses will be supported with historical excursions as well as visual and audio materials. Through teaching the fundamental concepts of the discipline of history, students will acquire the ability to access documents and information and to view the past from different perspectives. By establishing connections between history and the present on a scholarly basis, students will be encouraged to approach history in a more dynamic and vivid manner. In this way, graduates will be individuals who possess historical awareness and who preserve their historical environment and cultural values.
Students who successfully complete the undergraduate program in History are awarded the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History.

The objective of the undergraduate programme in History is to bring up individuals who will be aware of the big role and importance of analytical and critical thinking, sensitive towards the social problems; therefore, they will be able to analyze the problems also find solutions to these problems. The programme also is aiming to bring up individuals who are interested in researches and they will have the chance to to catch the opportunity to find satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and research centers, both in private and state sectors.

Graduates
of this section , particularly public institutions, libraries, archives,
including visual and written media and information-related or career can be
employed in various organizations . Students wishing to become a history
teacher taking pedagogical formation also depends on the Ministry of Education
can work as a history teacher at the school . Students also deepen their
knowledge of the area or can opt for an academic career by taking graduate
education . In addition, graduates of the department of the Ministry of Culture
and Tourism of the various units , as well as private institutions of culture
and tourism-related units will also find the opportunity to work . In addition,
our country's rich cultural heritage due to the state institutions and the
increasing number of private organizations and foundations established by the
museums and various cultural units of foreign language skills in the field of
well-trained historians increasingly demand to be heard in the work area is
expanding .
The education period of the History Department is 4 years. During the semester course process, there are mid-term exams, homework, projects, etc. and final exams at the end of the semester. In addition, students are required to prepare a graduation thesis. For graduation, students must have successfully passed all courses and have no FF or DZ grades. In this programme, students are required to complete a minimum of 242 ECTS credits and have a GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
