Goals To comprehend the importance of language in the life of the individual and the nation and the structural features of Turkish language, to teach the historical periods of Turkish, to comprehend the sound and shape structure of Turkish and to develop the student's ability to express what they listen, read, see and think in a planned, effective and fluent way both verbally and in writing.
Course Content The birth of language and features of language; qualities of language; language types; languages and types of languages on earth; the place of Turkish language among the world languages; basic features of Turkish language; historical features of Turkish written language; grammar.

1 - Know the definition of language, have an idea about the place and importance of language as a social institution in the life of a nation, realize the link between language, culture and language thought.
2 Learns the place of Turkish language among the world languages, realizes the richness and subtleties of Turkish, learns the difference of Turkish language from other languages.
3 - Have knowledge about the development and historical periods of Turkish language.
4 - Have knowledge about the current status of the Turkish language and its expansion areas.
5 - Understands the phonetic features of Turkish and the rules related to phonetics and knows how to use these rules in written expression.
6 - Have knowledge about the structural features of Turkish - They calculate the effects of the words that cause language pollution in their environment on language, and see the effect of culture on language.

4. Week Classification of world languages in terms of structure and origin, the place and characteristics of “Turkish Language” among world languages
5. Week Historical development of Turkish; examination of Old Turkish (Köktürkçe-Uygurca)
6. Week Historical development of Turkish; examination of Middle Turkish (Karakhanid-Harezmian-Kipchak-Chagatai-Chagatai-Old Anatolian Turkish)
7. Week Historical development of Turkish; analysis of New Turkish (Chagatai-Ottoman Turkish-Turkish Turkish)
8. Week The branches of Turkish used as a written language in today's world and their spreading areas, the main alphabets used by Turkish until today
9. Week MIDTERM EXAM
10. Week Simplification in the language, Turkey after the Republic of Turkey Turkish simplification efforts, the current problems of Turkish
11. Week Phonetics, definition and nature of sound events, the main sound events seen in Turkish words: Sound derivation, sound drop, consonant softening, consonant hardening, vowel contraction, ulama etc.
12. Week The main sound features in Turkish words and the main ways of producing words in Turkish.
13. Week The historical relationship of Turkish with other languages, the channel of exchange between languages, the elements that languages borrow from each other, loanwords and their types
14. Week Types of roots, types of affixes, words according to their structures (simple-derived-compound)
