Goals The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the methodological and theoretical problems encountered in the fundamental research areas of the psychology of religion. The course covers conceptual debates, measurement and evaluation issues, and methodological approaches that arise in research conducted in the field of the psychology of religion. Furthermore, it aims to enable students to approach the difficulties encountered in researching fundamental topics such as religious experience, religiosity, belief, attitudes, and behavior with a critical and analytical perspective. Within this framework, the course aims to help students identify the problem areas in the psychology of religion, evaluate the relevant literature, and analyze the theoretical debates in the field from a scientific perspective.
Course Content This course addresses theoretical and methodological problems arising in the fundamental research areas of the psychology of religion. The course examines the subject matter, basic concepts, and research methods of the psychology of religion; discusses conceptual and measurement problems encountered in the scientific study of phenomena such as religiosity, religious experience, belief, religious attitudes, and behavior. Furthermore, quantitative and qualitative research methods used in the psychology of religion, scale development and measurement tools, and the impact of cultural and social context on research are evaluated. In addition, current theoretical debates and research problems in the field of the psychology of religion are discussed, aiming to enable students to approach these topics with a critical perspective.
