| Goals | The aim of this course is to examine how modern psychological theories explain religion and religious life and to enable students to critically evaluate the fundamental theoretical approaches in the field of psychology of religion. The course covers psychoanalytic, behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, and developmental psychological approaches to the phenomenon of religion, analyzing the interaction between religion and psychology from different theoretical perspectives. |
| Course Content | This course examines the fundamental assumptions of modern psychological theories and how these theories explain phenomena such as religion, belief, religiosity, and spiritual experience. The approaches to religion of important psychologists such as Freud, Jung, Adler, Allport, Erikson, Fromm, and Frankl are examined; in addition, theoretical and empirical studies on the individual and social dimensions of religion in contemporary psychology literature are evaluated. Throughout the course, the relationship between psychological theories and religious experience is discussed from a comparative and critical perspective. |
