[] About Program
In the Graduate Program of History (M.A.) which was established in the foundation of the Institute of Social Sciences in 2016; There are branches of Ancient History, Middle Age, New Age, Modern Age and History of Turkish Republic. In this context, the Department of History aims to teach students the developments they have shown in political, social, economic and cultural spheres throughout history, their contributions to the world civilization, and conduct academic research in related fields. In addition, the Department of History aims to contribute to local history research by including lessons on the cultural heritage of Düzce and the Black Sea region in its program. There are 2 Professors, 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 2 Research Assistants in the department.

The aim of the Department of History is to train students who are equipped with a strong infrastructure and who are able to conduct international scientific researches and gain discipline, are confident, have creative thoughts, can produce solutions, follow new developments and will succeed not only in Turkey but also abroad. Within the framework of the main objectives of Turkish Higher Education, students are to improve their critical and analytical approaches while working on the sources of written and visual history, taking advantage of contemporary technolo- gies to provide students with a comparative approach to better understand Turkish history, human history and world history.

Students who have successfully completed the program are entitled to a Master's Degree in History (M.A.).

[] Admission Requirements
Admission to the graduate program; ALES exam result 50%, science exam result 10%, license grade average 15%, interview evaluation result 15%, one of the language exam accepted by YDS and Universities Council or foreign language proficiency exam (DÜYDYS) 10% weighted. The result of the evaluation should be at least 55 out of 100
Candidates must have received a) a standard score of 55 from the program type applied by ALES, not less than 70 for applicants with a bachelor's degree, and a standard point awarded by the recommendation of the Institute Boards and the approval of the Senate.
B) At least 55 points from ÜDS or an equivalent score from an exam accepted by the Universities Council, a score of at least 55 points from ÜDS from one of the English, French and German languages apart from the native languages for foreign students, They must have received an equivalent score.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students must complete compulsory and elective courses and specialization courses as well as ECTS which must be taken and must also write a M.A. thesis in the field.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

The objective of the History M.A.program is to bring up individuals who will be aware of the big role and importance of analytical and critical thinking, sensitive towards the social problems; therefore, they will be able to analyze the problems also find solutions to these problems. The programme also is aiming to bring up individuals who are interested in researches and they will have the chance to to catch the opportunity to find satisfactory jobs in the working fields such as universities, education and research centers, both in private and state sectors.

1 Learns about the history writing and schools in the world and Turkey from past to present, recognizes new schools and evaluates their effects on history.
2 It develops the ability to identify historical problems and penetrates historical events in every direction and penetrates deeply.
3 Gains the ability to comprehend the relationship between current events and processes and the past. Gains the ability to establish a relationship between the singular and the universal through local and oral history research.
4 To be able to analyze, criticize and analyze historical texts and to have the ability to summarize, transcribe, report and present in scientific meetings in the form of papers etc.
5 Develops the ability to reason and think analytically by gaining the ability to approach historical problems academically/objectively.
6 To be able to acquire basic knowledge about all periods of history such as Ancient and Islamic History, Turkish History before and after Islam, Ottoman and Republican History, European and World History, to learn basic problems and to compare these periods within themselves.
7 The knowledge and skills gained in the field of history can be used in collaborations with other areas of social sciences.
8 Having knowledge about Ottoman, European and World Histories, they will have the skills of interpretation, comparison and analysis.
9 The students gain the habit of using the library and archives and the ability, learn ways of doing research on a topic and use them in other areas of life.
10 The students Specific analyze tools for working with documents that are required for certain periods, historical texts (paleography, epigraphy, etc.), inscriptions and epitaphs, and gain the skills to use source texts in various languages.
11 The students adopt the importance of lifelong learning and folllow developments in contemporary issues and develop self; they get scientific ethics and consciousness of responsibility.
12 The students gain the skills to use and the information bibliographical repertoires, archival inventories, information retrieval tools, such as electronic references. [] Professional Profile of Graduates
Our students who will graduate with the title of "historian"

They can work in public institutions, libraries and archives, in the press-broadcasting and radio-television sector, in various information-related organizations, the Ministry of National Education, in the various units of the Universities, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and in the cultural and tourism units of private institutions.

In addition, due to the rich cultural heritage of our country, there is a growing demand for foreign language and well-educated historians in museums and cultural units established by private institutions and foundations, which are rapidly increasing in number with state institutions.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
Graduates who have successfully completed the master's program can apply to doctorate programs in discipline in their own fields provided that necessary points are taken from ALES and Foreign Language exams and if they are successful in the interview examination they are admitted to doctorate program.
[] Program Structure
History Master's Program consists of 120 ECTS in total. These courses are in the categories of Scientific Research Methods, Seminar, Specialized Field Courses I-II and Master Thesis I-II required courses. Students have to choose at least 48 ECTS elective courses out of these courses.

[] Graduation Requirements
The total number of ECTS credits required to obtain a Master's Degree is 120 and all courses are theoretical. Students must take and successfully complete at least 8 elective courses, 1 seminar course, non-credit Specialist courses with Thesis studies in this context. Graduated diplomas are awarded to students who successfully complete their courses and are successful in thesis defense.
