INFORMATION ON THE PROGRAMME 

Landscape Architecture, which studies the concepts of nature, planning and design in a systematic way, is a profession discipline dealing with site design, planning and management by gathering art, science, engineering and technology. Landscape architects shape the world to create a livable environment for longer than about a century.

Landscape architects make site decisions related to parks, gardens, tourism and recreation areas, campuses, residential areas, commercial centers and public buildings both at local and regional scale. At the same time, it plans to restore areas that have been destroyed by humans such as wetlands, stream corridors, mines, solid waste landfill site, forests. They carry out conservation projects of historical sites and cultural resources in national regional and local contexts. Landscape architects play an important role in environmental design and protection by producing plans and implementation projects in respect of both people's needs and respect for environmental values working with architects, urban planners, civil engineers and other professions.

MISSION
The Master and PhD Program in Landscape Architecture aims to train rationalist and modern landscape architects and academicians who know the use all possibilities of technology, aim to be designed and be planned according to specific user needs and be protected environment that belongs to living being resource specially human being with knowledge scientific and technical and at artistic level, teach, research, inquire and produce.

VISION

The goal is to provide a comprehensive and functional post-graduate education and training program equipped with basic and up-to-date information in the field of landscape architecture, to offer a postgraduate training in national and international standards, to train graduates who use existing technologies, produce new technologies, have design and innovation experience, competitive in national and international field as equipped with contemporary knowledge, study sustainable development and nature conservation oriented, in addition to be a program with academic staff who have adopted the principles of application, research, scientific ethics, education and socio-cultural values.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture.
[] Earned Level of Qualification
It is a programme that provides graduate education at Second Cycle level.
[] Admission Requirements
It is essential for the candidates of graduate program:

•    To hold an undergraduate diploma.
•    To have a grade of at least 55 in ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam), 450 in GMAT, which is an internationally accredited exam or 610 in the “quantitative” part of GRE exam.
•    To meet the requirements determined by the head of department and to have  taken the language proficiency exam given by the Institute, unless the candidate has a certificate of KPDS/UDS or any other exam accredited by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Institution).
•    To be successful in the interview/ aptitude test.
•    To have a reference letter, a statement of purpose  showing thereas on for applying  for the graduate program and competence in written and oral Turkish and/or foreign language skills.
•    Exchange student applications are to be done in accordance with the admission requirements of the agreement signed between DuzceUniversity and the partner university.
•    Visiting students can take the courses approved by the head of the related department.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students studying master's with thesis are required:
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis, and complete 120 ECTS. To get at least a grade of CB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.00 general average grade out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis defense.

Students registered in a Master’s program without thesis:
• Are required to take 10 courses and enroll in the Graduation Project Course, and complete 120 ECTS. (The Graduation Project Course do not have local credit and are assessed with a pass or fail).
• Are required to get at least CB grade in order to be successful in a course in their program.
• Are required to have 3.00 general average grades out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Graduate Project course.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

Programme Description


The aim of the Master and PhD program in Landscape Architecture is to train scientists who are aware of their professional responsibilities and are dependent on ethical values, are attentive, creative and have critical thinking skills, are sensitive to social events and can take individual responsibility, are independent of research and respect diversity and human rights and can interpret scientific events with a broad and deep perspective and have the ability to identify the steps needed to reach new syntheses.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE OF GRADUATES

 

Organizations based on professional or interprofessional cooperation within the context of landscape planning and design, environmental impact assessment, landscape management (planning, maintenance and restore), ornamental plant cultivation and marketing constitute research interests in the private sector.

 

Ministry of Development, Environment and Urban Planning Ministry, Culture and Tourism Ministry, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Food-Agriculture and Livestock Ministry, Forestry and Water Affairs Ministry, Highways General Directorate, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, Municipalities, etc. constitute research interests in the public sector.

Graduate students of this programme may apply to study in doctorate programmes.
[] Program Structure

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

 

The Landscape Architecture Program is regulated with 21 local credits and 240 ECTS.

 

The programme consists of minimum seven courses, not less than 21 credit hours, qualifying examination, thesis proposal and thesis study. Ph.D. Seminar, Specialization Field Course and Ph.D. Thesis study are evaluated as successful or unsuccessful not included in the overall grade average.

Those students who have successfully completed these courses and successfully completed the required studies in Düzce University Graduate Education and Training Regulations are considered to have completed the Master and PhD studies.
