[] About Program

The main dealing subjects of the programme are the organisms, such as insects and mites, abiotic and biotic factors (fungi, bacteria, phytoplasma, spiroplasma, virus, viroid and nematodes) and weeds causing economic losses to the cultivated plants. In that teaching programme, mechanical, physical, chemical, biological and biotechnological control strategies are introduced.

[] Admission Requirements

It is essential for the candidates of doctora program;

•    To hold a graduate diploma.
•    To have a grade of at least 55 on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) 450 on GMAT, which is an internationally accredited exam, or 610 on “quantitative” part of GRE exam.
•    To meet the requirements determined by the head of department and to have  taken the language proficiency exam given by the institution unless the candidate has a certificate of KPDS/UDS or any other exams accredited by YOK ( TurkishHigherEducationInstitution )
•    Tohave a grade of at least 70 in ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam).
•    To be successful in the interview/ aptitude test
•    To have a reference letter, a statement of purpose  showing the reason for applying  for the graduate program and competence in written and oral Turkish and/or foreign language skills
•    Exchange student applications are to be done in accordance with the admission requirements of the agreement signed between Duzce University and the partner university.
•    Special students can take the courses approved by the head of the related department.

[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students studying PhD with thesis are required:
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course and PhD thesis, and complete 240ECTS. To get at least a grade of CB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.00 general average grade out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and PhD thesis defense.

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad
DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.
Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.
In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.
At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.


[] Description of Program

The programme is to provide the students the fundamental background on plant protection challenges in cultivation and reach the sufficient knowledge, evaluation and application to solve those challenges. The students learn to scan some literature,make research, evaluate and analyzed the results, prepare a thesis. The purpose of the programme is to have qualified workforce meeting the demands and wishes of public and private companies active in plant protection field and scientific development academically proficient students.

4 To be able to translate actual development in his area and his study to groups visually, verbally and written
5 To produce solution taking responsibility and develop new strategic approaches in situations which are not predicted in applications of his field

7 To have verbal or written communication ability at least one foreign language
8 Be able to use and improve science and communication technology with computer writing and information of hardware

[] Professional Profile of Graduates
Graduated students are employed in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Forest and Water Affairs, The State Hydraulic Works, Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, universities, private companies and agricultural enterprises. In addition, they have the ability to work as an agricultural consultant.

[] Program Structure

Bitki Koruma PhD involves 21 local and 240ECTS credits. This program includes 21 credits (minimum) courses, a seminar, and thesis work. See the graduate school regulations for more detail.


[] Examinations, Assessment and Grading

For each course, the method of assessment and grading is defined "Course Information Form" in details. Click for more information about regulations.

Students are required to take a mid-term examination and/or complete other assigned projects/homework during the semester and, additionally, are required to take a final examination and/or complete a final project for course evaluation. The final grade is based on the mid-term examination grade, the final examination grade and/or evaluation of final project, with the contributions of 40% and 60%, respectively. To pass any course, a Master’s student must receive at least 80 out of 100. Students must repeat courses they have failed or may substitute courses the Department accepts as equivalent. The assessment for each course is described in detail in “Individual Course Description.
