[] About Program

The Biology Graduate Program has started in the Department of Biology in 2013. Language of t is Turkish. The graduate program will be conducted on the different areas of Biology such as Microbiology, Botanic, Hydrobiology, General Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetic, Biological Control, Ecology, Marine Biology. The academic staff of biology consists of four Professor, four Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor and one research assistant. There are 10 laboratory that eight of them for research and two of them for education in the department. General Biology, Zoology, Botanic, Hydrobiology, Molecular Biology an Genetic are the sections of the department. Our research fields are microbiology in water, antimicrobial activity, systematic of fungi, food microbiology, identification at bacteriology, population genetic, molecular systematic, marine biodiversity, entomopathogenic nematodes as biological control agents, ecology, etnobotanical plants and floristic surveys on different regions of Turkey, ichthyology, ecological studies on lessepsian species in coasts of Turkey, comparison of Turkish honey bees for mtDNA and morphological features.

We aimed to use information and our experience towards modern, creative, reproductive, participative students and abide by modern education principles as the department.

The department of biology aims to educate the experts at graduate level of biology in botanic, zoology, hydrobiology, general biology, molecular biology and genetic with it’s internationally experienced academic staff.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Master’s Degree in Biology.

It is a programme that provides graduate education at Second Cycle level.
[] Admission Requirements
It is essential for the candidates of graduate program:

•    To hold an undergraduate diploma.
•    To have a grade of at least 55 in ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam), 450 in GMAT, which is an internationally accredited exam or 610 in the “quantitative” part of GRE exam.
•    To meet the requirements determined by the head of department and to have  taken the language proficiency exam given by the Institute, unless the candidate has a certificate of KPDS/UDS or any other exam accredited by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Institution).
•    To be successful in the interview/ aptitude test.
•    To have a reference letter, a statement of purpose  showing thereas on for applying  for the graduate program and competence in written and oral Turkish and/or foreign language skills.
•    Exchange student applications are to be done in accordance with the admission requirements of the agreement signed between DuzceUniversity and the partner university.
•    Visiting students can take the courses approved by the head of the related department.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students studying master's with thesis are required:
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis, and complete 120 ECTS. To get at least a grade of CB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.00 general average grade out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis defense.

Students registered in a Master’s program without thesis:
• Are required to take 10 courses and enroll in the Graduation Project Course, and complete 120 ECTS. (The Graduation Project Course do not have local credit and are assessed with a pass or fail).
• Are required to get at least CB grade in order to be successful in a course in their program.
• Are required to have 3.00 general average grades out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Graduate Project course.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

Either national or international it is important to graduate people expert on different sections of biology for modern world. In this context, department of biology aims to make up for missing experts in different sections of biology. And the students will be educated as theoretical, experimental and attend to field studies.

The graduate students can find an academic position in the universities and to be employed as experts at customs, ministry of environment, ministry of water resources and forestry, department of wildlife, criminology laboratories, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies.

*The lecture of graduate program of biology has 21 local and 120 AKTS credits.

*A thesis for graduation are obligatory for students.

Students of the programme are supposed to write Master Thesis after succeeding at least 7 graduate courses and a Seminar course. Those who present their thesis sucessfully can graduate from the programme
