Department of Medical Biology and Genetics in Duzce University was first established under the  Abant Izzet Baysal University,faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at 1992. Then, The faculty of Medicine, according to Law No: 5467 in 2006, continuing its education and training depending on the newly was established  Duzce University.

Our department has been offering postgraduate (medical specialty, master of science and doctorate) education programs in Medical Biology and Genetics since the beginning of its establishment. As one of the first departments of Medical Biology and Genetics in Turkey, it provided scientists who contributed to establishments of several universities.

Medical Doctor Specialty Program accepts only medical faculty graduates. In the education of Medical Biology and Genetics specialty, a similar program to doctorate is followed. After completion of this program, students take the title of Medical Biology and Genetics specialist and, obtain the privilege of opening and directing a laboratory. They can also take academic positions in Medical Biology and Genetics departments of all universities.

Master of science and doctorate programs of Medical Biology and Genetics are offered under the regulation and association of Institute of Health Science at Duzce University.

The aim of the program of Master of Science in Medical Biology and Genetics is to graduate fellows who have certain knowledge and skills, can make scientific research, can access to information, have the ability to evaluate and comment the information, have the certain ethical and social values as a global scientist in their field. A thesis study is prepared by the student of Master of Science besides the followings; lecture, seminar and application studies. The duration of education is 2 years.

The graduates of Master of Science and Doctorate programs in Medical Biology and Genetics can also take academic positions in Medical Biology and Genetics departments of all universities. They can manage health projects in government and private sectors. In addition, they can continue to their research activities in the universities of foreign countries like some of our past graduates.

Our major research subjects of our department are cellular biology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, cancer genetics,cytogenetics, farmakogenetics, prenetal diagnosis. The language of Master of Science is Turkish.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Master’s Degree in Medical Biology and Genetics.

It is a programme that provides graduate education at Second Cycle level.
[] Admission Requirements
It is essential for the candidates of graduate program:

•    To hold an undergraduate diploma.
•    To have a grade of at least 55 in ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam), 450 in GMAT, which is an internationally accredited exam or 610 in the “quantitative” part of GRE exam.
•    To meet the requirements determined by the head of department and to have  taken the language proficiency exam given by the Institute, unless the candidate has a certificate of KPDS/UDS or any other exam accredited by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Institution).
•    To be successful in the interview/ aptitude test.
•    To have a reference letter, a statement of purpose  showing thereas on for applying  for the graduate program and competence in written and oral Turkish and/or foreign language skills.
•    Exchange student applications are to be done in accordance with the admission requirements of the agreement signed between DuzceUniversity and the partner university.
•    Visiting students can take the courses approved by the head of the related department.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students studying master's with thesis are required:
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis, and complete 120 ECTS. To get at least a grade of CB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.00 general average grade out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis defense.

Students registered in a Master’s program without thesis:
• Are required to take 10 courses and enroll in the Graduation Project Course, and complete 120 ECTS. (The Graduation Project Course do not have local credit and are assessed with a pass or fail).
• Are required to get at least CB grade in order to be successful in a course in their program.
• Are required to have 3.00 general average grades out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Graduate Project course.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

departments of universities. They can work in research institutions and universities. They can participate to projects of public health.

[] Program Structure
All mandatory lectures of Master of Science program in Medical Biology and Genetics are taken from the department. The ratio of elective lectures is 50%. If it is needed, the lectures can be taken from other departments. Mandatory credit point to take is 24. According to European Credit Transfer System; mandatory and elective lectures that give at least 60 credits, and the specific subject lectures needed for thesis study that give at least 60 credits are necessary. Program lectures are theoretical and practical. Elective lectures are given after first semester. The student in Master of Science program prepares a thesis study in addition to lecture, seminar and practical studies. The duration of education is 4 half semesters (2 years). First two half semesters are lecture section and then, next two half semesters are thesis section. The student carries out the lecture period under the advisement of a faculty member, and conducts the thesis period under the advisement of at least a faculty member. The attendance is mandatory for theoretical and practical lectures
