In the Graduate Program of History (PhD.) which was established in the foundation of the Institute of Social Sciences in 2018; There are branches of Ancient History, Middle Age, New Age, Modern Age and History of Turkish Republic. In this context, the Department of History aims to teach students the developments they have shown in political, social, economic and cultural spheres throughout history, their contributions to the world civilization, and conduct academic research in related fields. In addition, the Department of History aims to contribute to local history research by including lessons on the cultural heritage of Düzce and the Black Sea region in its program. There are 2 Professor, 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 2 Research Assistants in the department.
The aim of the Department of History is to train students who are equipped with a strong infrastructure and who are able to conduct international scientific researches and gain discipline, are confident, have creative thoughts, can produce solutions, follow new developments and will succeed not only in Turkey but also abroad. Within the framework of the main objectives of Turkish Higher Education, students are to improve their critical and analytical approaches while working on the sources of written and visual history, taking advantage of contemporary technolo- gies to provide students with a comparative approach to better understand Turkish history, human history and world history.
To provide the opportunity to specialize in the related sub-departments of history, to train historians who have critical thinking, who can conduct research and produce projects on a universal scale. To research and transfer national and universal cultural assets with scientific methods and to spread the awareness of protection.
Students who successfully complete the programme are entitled to receive a PhD degree in History

In the admission of students to PhD program; ALES exam result is 50%, science exam result expressed out of 100 is 25%, master's degree grade point average is 5%, interview evaluation result is 20%, YDS and one of the language exams accepted as equivalent by the Interuniversity Board or the result of the foreign language proficiency exam (DÜYDYS) conducted by the University is taken into consideration with a weight of 10%. The evaluation result must be at least 55 out of 100
a) Candidates must have obtained the standard score determined by the recommendation of the Graduate School Boards and the approval of the Senate, provided that it is not less than 55 in the score type of the program they apply from ALES, and not less than 70 for those applying with a bachelor's degree.
b) At least 55 points from YDS or an equivalent score from an exam accepted by the Interuniversity Board, and for foreign students, at least 55 points from ÜDS in one of the English, French and German languages other than their mother tongue or an equivalent score from an accepted exam.
Students must complete compulsory and elective courses and specialization courses as well as ECTS which must be taken and must also write a Doctoral Thesis in the field.

The aim of the PhD program in History is to educate individuals who have a conscious, analytical and critical perspective, who are sensitive to social problems, who have developed correct study and thinking habits, who observe ethical values, who can examine and produce solutions to the problems encountered in both social and professional life, who are researchers, and to equip them with the knowledge, skills and competencies that will enable them to work in the public and private sectors.

1 To have the ability to design, implement and finalize the research process as an independent researcher as well as the methodological background required by the field of specialization.
2 To be able to systematically approach current developments in the field and to acquire high-level skills in research methods.
3 To analyze existing studies in the field from a critical perspective and to reach original results that will bring innovation to science by making use of interdisciplinary interaction.
4 To acquire the ability to use Turkish effectively and accurately by utilizing historical terminology and techniques; to have at least one foreign language knowledge in order to read scientifically and critically and to express oneself orally.
5 To contribute to the development of historical science by sharing the results of research with academic circles in written and oral form with the awareness of ethical responsibility.
6 To participate in at least one scientific meeting as a speaker in order to improve his/her competence in presenting and defending the original data obtained as a result of his/her research and/or to publish a scientific article in a national or international refereed journal.
If they wish, students can move to the next level by doing a post-doctoral research project.
In order to graduate from this programme, it is necessary to pass the doctoral courses, pass the proficiency exam and complete the thesis study within the specified period and defend it in front of the jury.
