[] About Program

In our program, psychological counselors are trained to meet the need for psychological counselors in our country. The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling in Düzce University Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Sciences started to offer undergraduate education in 2014-2015. A total of seven academic staff, including one professor, three associate professors, two doctoral faculty members and one research assistants, serve in the department. The curriculum prepared for the department not only prepares students for the profession of school psychological counseling (guidance counselor), but also has a structure that will form the basis of the postgraduate education of the psychological counseling discipline. In short, the program in question will prepare our school students for graduation. afterwards  School counselor as a mental health counselor in public and private schools, as a mental health counselor private mental health centers in the field of health, providing mental health services as a psychological counselor in official psychological counseling centers and in hospitals and polyclinics, as a psychological counselor, in the army, police Family and marriage counseling in relevant units of prisons and detention centers centers and/or units providing service, relevant departments of universities they work as academic staff.

The goal of the program is to train candidate counsellors who are sensitive to human and society, aware of the changing world and its problems; who comprehend the paradigm of 21st century; adopt humanistic and existentialist philosophy; being competent in counselling and guidance field and aware of ethical responsibilities; being able to use information communication technologies efficiently; being able to deliver effective counselling services in education, health, justice, social service, industry and other fields.

Knowledge on basic concepts, theories and approaches of counselling and guidance field; appling theoretical knowledge, principles and techniques in various working areas of counselling such as education, health, justice, industry etc; Acknowledge humanistic values, appreciate importance of lifelong learning, believe in democracy, human rights, and ethical values.

Persons must at least hold high school diplomas. Candidates are admitted to the program through national examination(s) held by the Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Candidates must receive a sufficiently high Turkish-Mathematics score

The student must successfully complete the coursework of 240 ECTS credits with at least a GPA (grade point average) of 2.50 (out of a scale of 4.00) and should not have been expelled from Duzce University on the ground of the Article 27 of the university's Associate (Vocational Training)- Undergraduate Education Examination Guide (D. Ü. Önlisans, Lisans Eğitim-Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği).

[] Recognition of Prior Learning

The recognition of prior formal learning for vertical, horizontal, and intra-university transfers is carried out in accordance with the "Regulation on the Principles of Transfer Between Associate and Undergraduate Programs, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers in Higher Education Institutions" determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).


[] Description of Program

Guidance and Psychological Counseling undergraduate program aims to make counselors-in-training gain formation of Guidance and Psychological Counseling. For this purpose, the program’s objective is to provide guidance and psychological counseling theoretical knowledge and both individual and group practice skills. In addition, the program prepares students to effectively apply their knowledge and skills primarily in educational, health and industrial settings.

1 Explains the basic concepts and principles related to the field of Psychological Counseling and Guidance
2 Supports individuals' self-realization and psychological well-being with a multidisciplinary approach by taking into account the new paradigms in the field of counseling and guidance.
3 Understand the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) system and the roles and duties related to guidance and counseling services within this system.
4 Uses the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the field of counseling and guidance by adapting it to the needs of the institution (education, health, industry, justice, family counseling centers, employment offices, etc.).
5 Adopts professional values and ethical principles required by the field of counseling and guidance and exhibits appropriate attitudes and behaviors.
6 Is aware of the theoretical foundations (philosophical, sociological, psychological, historical, legal, economic, etc.) on which education is based and reflects these theories in their practices.
7 Is aware of the attitude, responsibility, and ethical values related to the teaching profession and behaves accordingly.
8 Plans, implements, and evaluates the learning-teaching process effectively, considering the curricula' basic concepts, principles, and characteristics.
9 Designs and manages an effective and supportive learning environment based on learning and teaching theory, approach, strategy, methods, and instructional technologies in creating the learning-teaching process.
10 Follows the innovation, development, and 21st-century skills in the teaching profession and reflects these developments and skills to research and practice based on scientific principles.
11 Uses Turkish properly and effectively per the rules and communicates well with students.
12 Adheres to Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions and exhibits attitudes and behaviors toward democracy, human rights, and Turkish national, moral, and cultural values.
13 Knows at least one foreign language at a level to monitor and communicate with colleagues.
14 Is aware of the importance of willing and active participation in cultural, social, environmental, artistic and sportive activities for the teaching profession, to be an effective global citizen.
15 Acts sensitively to local and global events and developments and participates in projects and activities to support society's development, with a sense of social responsibility.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates

Although the great majority of the program graduates work at schools and guidance and research centers, they also work at a variety of settings including private counseling centers, army and police headquarters, courts of family and children, university counseling centers and other health or industrial institutions.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition
The graduates holding Bachelor’s Degree are eligible to apply to Master’s Degree programmes at national level and /or international level both in the same and in related disciplines.

[] Program Structure

The amount of national credits that students must complete to graduate from Guidance and Psychological Counseling program are totally 180 (146+34) credits including 21+0 electives. ECTS credits are determined as 240, 30 ECTS credits per semester. Guidance and Psychological Counseling program is a 4-year program.

[] Graduation Requirements

The student must successfully complete the coursework of 240 ECTS credits with at least a GPA (grade point average) of 2.00 (out of a scale of 4.00) and should not have been expelled from Duzce University on the ground of the Article 27 of the university's Associate (Vocational Training)- Undergraduate Education Examination Guide (D. Ü. Önlisans, Lisans Eğitim-Öğretim ve Sınav Yönetmeliği). Guidance and Psychological Counseling is a 4-year program. For each semester, there are 14-week education period including exams, homework, assignments, projects, and final exam. The courses requiring practice are credited in the program, there is not an internship requirement for graduation. Being able to graduate, students must be successful in all classes, and must earn at least 2.50 GPA.
