[] About Program

To the program of Master of Science in Pharmacology are accepted students that from medicine, pharmacy, chemistry, biology ect. relevant departments.

The teaching and learning language is Turkish, and foreign students are accepted as a program.

To be able to acquire experience in the field of pharmacology in the field of pharmacology and to apply the scientific research methods used in the field of pharmacology as well as acquire a general knowledge and understanding of pharmacology in the field of pharmacology.

Pharmacology Department; Qualitative and quantitative analyzes of substances such as drugs, prohibited substances, toxins etc. are carried out. For performing these analyzes; include LCMSMS, GCMS, HPLC chromatographic analysis systems, an isolated organ bath system, an auto-analyzer system with ELISA support, a lyophilization system for purification processes and the necessary basic equipment for extraction.

Thesis master program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study that are not less than twenty one credits. The seminar course and thesis work are non-credit and evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. Thesis graduate program consists of at least 120 ECTS credits including at least eight courses including thesis seminar and dissertation thesis, not less than 60 ECTS credits. The student has to register for each semester thesis period since the appointment of the supervisor at the latest.

The aim of this course is to train manpower which can evaluate the biological activity of xenobiotics and endogenous substances at the level of molecule, cell, tissue, system and whole organism, analyze them by analytical and other analysis methods, establish hypotheses and present and present the results of these results.

Pharmacology program aims to create an educational and training environment where all the students can reach to the objectives mentioned below in their postgraduate life.

  • To make contributions in the fields of clinical pharmacology and rational drug utilization and act according to the national drug policy.
  • To make theorethical or practical contributions in the fields of new drug development and therapies
  • To have theoretical and practical information and skills enough to use methods of experimental pharmacology
  • To be able to develop pharmacological applications according to needs of pharmaceutical industry
  • To know essential pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded an Master’s Degree in Pharmacology.

It is a programme that provides graduate education at Second Cycle level.
[] Admission Requirements
It is essential for the candidates of graduate program:

•    To hold an undergraduate diploma.
•    To have a grade of at least 55 in ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam), 450 in GMAT, which is an internationally accredited exam or 610 in the “quantitative” part of GRE exam.
•    To meet the requirements determined by the head of department and to have  taken the language proficiency exam given by the Institute, unless the candidate has a certificate of KPDS/UDS or any other exam accredited by YOK (Turkish Higher Education Institution).
•    To be successful in the interview/ aptitude test.
•    To have a reference letter, a statement of purpose  showing thereas on for applying  for the graduate program and competence in written and oral Turkish and/or foreign language skills.
•    Exchange student applications are to be done in accordance with the admission requirements of the agreement signed between DuzceUniversity and the partner university.
•    Visiting students can take the courses approved by the head of the related department.
[] Course's Contrubution To Program
Students studying master's with thesis are required:
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis, and complete 120 ECTS. To get at least a grade of CB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.00 general average grade out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Seminar course and Master’s thesis defense.

Students registered in a Master’s program without thesis:
• Are required to take 10 courses and enroll in the Graduation Project Course, and complete 120 ECTS. (The Graduation Project Course do not have local credit and are assessed with a pass or fail).
• Are required to get at least CB grade in order to be successful in a course in their program.
• Are required to have 3.00 general average grades out of 4.00 on the core subjects, and are to be successful in the Graduate Project course.
[] Recognition of Prior Learning
Students enrolled in DU might be exempted from certain courses within the framework of certain regulations. A student can be exempted from a certain course provided related course content previously received from another institution complies with that of DU, which is subject to approval and verification by the Board of faculty/graduate school/school.

Recognition of Education Abroad

DU recognises academic terms and courses studied by a student that has been involved in an exchange programme for one or two terms at the universities with which a partnership was established.

Students that are selected to avail themselves of Student Mobility for Studies under ERASMUS are obliged to draw up an education agreement with relevant ERASMUS Unit Coordination prior to the mobility term. The education agreement demonstrates the courses to be studied at the partner university the student intends to go, as well as appropriate ECTS credits.

In addition to this, students shall be asked to issue a Recognition Sheet, which refers to the equivalent of foreign courses in DU, so that the credit transfer is planned and approved.

At the end of the exchange term, the courses studied abroad are recorded and demonstrated in the transcript, together with the original course codes and names and ECTS credits. Pursuant to ERASMUS Programme and Collaboration Agreements concluded thereunto, official transcripts will quote, an abbreviation signal of ET, European Transfer, for the courses studied abroad.

1 Learn the basic concepts of drugs and their effects.
2 Learn the basic experimental methods used in the evaluation of drug effect.
3 Learns the pharmacological experimental models. Obtains the skills for working with laboratory animals.
4 Have knowledge about analysis techniques of xenobiotics.
5 Learns the basic molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of cell functions, and, gains experience in pharmacological approach to these mechanisms.
6 Learns the means of collecting and analyzing scientific data and reasoning.
7 Acquires the knowledge, skills and the attitude regarding the techniques for scientific presentation and writing.
8 Comprehends the basic principles of rational drug use.
9 Have sufficient knowledge about scientific research ethics.

[] Professional Profile of Graduates

The graduates of Pharmacology Master's Program are employed in laboratories conducting drug research and analysis, in public or private institutions like pharmaceutical industry, research and development centers, Drug and Medical Device Association, Social Security Institution, Turkish Public Health Institution, pharmaceutical consultancy companies and occupational organizations. Graduates who wish to continue their doctoral studies may work as researchers or academicians in different educational institutions in Turkey or abroad.

[] The Upper Stage of a Transition

Students who complete the M.A. programme successfully can apply to Ph.D. programmes provided that: They have required valid scores from the related parts of Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES). They have the sufficient scores from a language Proficiency Tests (ÜDS, KPDS, TOEFL etc.) (Tests approved by the Inter-university Committee) They are successful in the interview administered by the Department.

[] Program Structure

Graduate students should complete theoretical and practical coursework, to earn the required credits in the first two semesters. In 3rd and 4th semesters, students are primarily responsible for conducting original research under supervision of their mentors in order to compile the data for the preparation of their thesis works.
