Department of Physiology in Duzce University was first established under the  Abant Izzet Baysal University,faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at 1992. Then, The faculty of Medicine, according to Law No: 5467 in 2006, continuing its education and training depending on the newly was established  Duzce University.

Since the establishment of our Department, it has been run the programmes of specilization in medicine, master degree and PhD degree. Physiology Master and PhD Programs are carried out within Düzce University Health Sciences Institute and within the scope of related regulations.

The aim of the PhD program is won the knowledge required in the field of medical physiology, knowledge of at least one research topic related literature, and laboratory skills which reached a universal level. Other aim of this programme is raise the person who have teaching abilities to be able to convey their knowledge and skills to their trainee scientists, can independently plan and conduct a research study, a person, which obtained his/her studies result data, can present that data for the benefit of science and humanity, and also who can produce the new informations and carries universal scientists ethical and social qualities.

PhD program contains; Medical physiology courses, qualification exam, thesis proposal, thesis study and thesis defense examination.Period of study is 4 years. Master of science and doctorate programs of physiology are offered under the regulation and association of Institute of Health Science at Düzce University. After completion of this program, students take the title of physiology specialist and, obtain the privilege of opening and directing a laboratory. The graduates of Master of Science and Doctorate programs in Physiology can also take academic positions in Physiology Departments in all universities. They can also conduct a health care projects in public institutions or the private sector. They may also continue to their studies in various universities or research units abroad, like some of our graduates.

Our major research interest of our department are cardiovascular system physiology, smooth muscle physiology, endocrine system physiology, electrophysiology, neurophysiology (EEG, sleep, learning), gastrointestinal system physiology.

The language of the our graduate education programs is Turkish.

Students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a PhD Degree in Physiology.

It is a programme that provides graduate education at Third Cycle level.

Graduation from Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy or, from a undergraduate program of Faculty of Medicine must be. The satisfaction of the application rules of Institute of Health Sciences for postgraduate education at Duzce University must be. The same rules of application are applicable to international students.

Students studying in a Ph.D. program are required,
• To take 7 courses and enroll in the Seminar course, Ph.D. qualifying exam, and Ph.D. thesis, and complete 240 ECTS.
• To get at least a grade of BB in order to be successful in each course of the program,
• To have 3.25 general average grades out of 4.00 on all courses, and are to be successful in the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam, Seminar course Ph.D. thesis defense.

The aim of the doctorate program in medical physiology is to graduate Philosophy Doctors who; have certain knowledge and skills in medical physiology, reached the certain level at a specific research subject of literature as well as the certain level of skills in the same subject at international level, have teaching abilities to be able pass their knowledge and skills to their trainee scientists, are capable of to plan and conduct and present an independent scientific study for the sake of science and humanity, can produce a new knowledge, have the etic and social values of a universal science people. Doctorate program contains lectures, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, thesis study and exam of dissertation thesis. The duration of education is 8 half semesters (4 years). First four half years are lecture section and then, next four half years are thesis section.

1	To have advanced knowledge of physiology and enough information of other medical fields to support their physiology knowledge, as well as to use and assess that knowledge systematically.
2	To keep up with the literature in their field and, to reach unique results which may improve their field by achieving detailed analysis and synthesis of the literature.
3	To plan, manage and finalize original scientific researches, which may bring some improvement or some applicable value to their field as well as other fields by protecting the scientific reputation independently.
4	To have enough knowledge of statistical methods and to be able to choose, apply and analyze a correct statistical method in their research.
5	To write a report of a participated research as well as to publish or present that research in national and international meetings.
6	To have enough knowledge of laboratory safety and research ethics as well as to consider those values in data collection, data interpretation and its announcement phases. To realize the importance of that knowledge for individual and public
7	To have enough skills and knowledge to use basic laboratory instruments as well as the sophisticated ones which are related to their research field. To offer some innovative solutions to problems.
8	To have skills of teaching and transferring of their knowledge.
9	To interconnect, share their knowledge, discuss the problems, defend their original idea and offer some suggestions to national and international individuals as well as institutions in their and/or other?s fields.
10	To use the technology of informatics and communication as much as the field demanded.
11	To advance continuously their knowledge and skills in their field by participating educational programs of institutional postgraduate and national/international meetings.
12	To use the current advances and knowledge in their field by caring the values of children, family, nation and the reality of country for well being of public.

The graduates of Doctorate in Physiology can be in the academic position in physiology departments of universities. They can work in research institutions and universities. They can participate to projects of public health.

It is not to be won top honors.

Doctorate program of physiology contains lecture, proficiency exam, thesis proposal, and thesis study and thesis defense. The same mandatory lectures of Master of Science program are taken from the physiology department, except one from other department. The ratio of elective lectures is 69%. Elective lectures are taken either from the physiology department or other departments. A mandatory credit is 21, which has to be taken 18 of them from physiology department. According to European Credit Transfer System; mandatory lecture load is at least 120 credits, and thesis study that gives 120 credits should be completed for the students coming with Master of Science degree. Program lectures are theoretical and practical for each semester. Elective lectures start after first semester. The duration of education is 8 semesters (4 years). First four half semesters are lecture section and then, next four semesters are thesis section. The student carries out the lecture period under the advisement of a faculty member, and conducts the thesis period under the advisement of at least a faculty member. The attendance is mandatory for theoretical and practical lectures.
